World Container Reviews - Official Thread
#61

I would say its definately worth listening to early. After just one listen I am blown away by this album. I know I'm gonna feel the same way about it after I listen to it a bunch more times. I just can't critisize anything about this album, its so good. Out of all the songs I haven't previously heard live before, World Container really jumps out as a standout for me. And I would agree with everyone else that Gord's voice sounds spectacular on this album. Can't wait to pick it up on the 17th.

I can't take all this awesomeness of new stuff. Maybe I should tune into Hipbase Radio to calm me down and bring me back to the old stuff.

Is it just me or does Luv (sic) sound a lot like Interpol..style of the song, guitar riffs, vox...the guy from Interpol always sounded a bit like Gord anyways, but its funny now hearing the Hip actually sounding a bit like Interpol.

It is pretty heavy on the senses, isn't it? Powerful stuff to digest.

Wha? Confusedcratch:

You bet it is.

What he said. I've given it three full listens now, and I can honestly say that the band has never sounded better. The songs are beautifully crafted, the lyrics are classic Downie-esque poetry, and Gord's voice is unbelievable. At least 5 of the songs are instant Hip classics that can easily stand up to anything they've ever done, and will probably be in the setlist for a long time to come. I'm a big fan of the last two albums (especially IBE), but I think this is the best thing they've done in years. The last time I was this blown away by a new Hip album was probably Phantom Power.

Dammit Jim...I can't listen to it at work for whatever reason. I can view flash files no problem, and the player even pops up, but it doesn't start playing.

The same is true for me if I try to get it from thehip.com. But if you take it from one of the radio station websites, it works....a little choppy at first but you just have to drag the needle back to the beginning of Ocean after the buffering gets caught up.

Wow, this is just fantastic so far.

The Kids Don't Get It is so different from anything else they've done... I agree with whoever said it kind of sounds like Neil Young and Crazy Horse... but not quite. Gord just snarls out those lyrics. Wow

and they chose In View as the single?

Very, very impressive. I bet alot of old Hip fans will be returning. This is what I've personally been waiting for and expecting out of the last 3 albums.

Hopefully, hopefully, they pick the right tunes for radio play....hopefully.

That's my favourite song so far..most intense song they've recorded for a while I think.

I'm loving this, can't stop listening. As many of you have said, I've never before been so impressed on a first listen. Does anybody else pick up on a Hawksley Workman influence? Especially in World Container and Last Night I Dreamed You Didn't Love Me, especially the line "You kissed my fingers and you made me love you".

I'm suddenly getting the same thing you are. The window pops up, but nothing plays. What gives??
