i haven't seen fiddler's green at all on the song stats. just wondering if they ever played it live, or what ever else is up with that song. it would have been very interseting to hear.... also, what's gord say in blonde solid in the verse that starts "i was the funniest guy in the room, for half and hour or so, at a...?

I'll spare you delving any further and being torn apart by the Hipbase powers that be....Fiddler's is a song the Gord wrote for a nephew of his that passed away at a very young age. The song was sung during the funeral and was supposed to be a private family-only one but his sister/sister-in-law? insisted that it be included on the Road Apples album. It has been stated many times that this song will never again surface in a live format...which is too bad.
People tend to get a little sketchy around here (for what reason I'm not quite sure) when it comes to starting identical threads so just a little head's up, there is a search button at the top so that you can see if the topic you wish to discuss has already been touched upon.

Although it's pretty much been summed up, Gord also said something to effect of Fiddle Green being a song for his newphew... as in it's his song, not the Hip's.

1. um, beanmedic went through 2 years of study to get his Tool Point license. He's actually one of the few on here who could dish them out because of his fine-honed judgement on matters. I can't issue Tool Points. I wish I had the ability to but I don't. As for you though, you just picked up a scalpel and thought you could do open-heart surgery. Don't be surprised if someone on here stamps you with a couple more Tool Points for that response.

2. As for Fiddler's Green, I have yet to come across a quote of Gord or any tangible evidence saying that Fiddler's Green is about what Goulet stated above. I'm not neccessarily doubting it but unless I read somewhere a member of the Hip say it or hear them somewhere then I'm just going to consider it a belief and not an actual fact. Seems alot of fans believe it's the case of Gord's nephew without any reason.... it's like an urban legend of the Hip; it's there, we hear it, we repeat it, but for all we know it was made-up by another fan.
But they don't play it live... and the lyrics are sad.
Maybe someone just assumed that was the case when it actually isn't.
Either way; awesome song.
