It's all a big hoax the rest of the Hipbase is playing on you...there really is no Itunes Canada or new Hip song.

I actually started thinking that last night when I couldn't find any links to this Itunes Canada site. Then I open my itunes player and discovered it from there.

oh c'mon, somebody burn it to disc and re-encode it to mp3 already!

i don't have a credit card, and i'm not getting one to download a friggin song.

c'mon! if they wanted my $ for this song they should've kept it on the damn album (not to mention they gave the b-sides away for free last time), i really didn't want INOIB, so if i get this track i think we can call it even  .

borrow a visa and throw a dollar at them.......be sure to ask for that penny change though...Besides everyone really should have a visa if for nothing else to get a credit rating.

If anyone has this song, I can convert it to MP3 or WAV.

I have an option thru my sound card & Sound Forge to 'record what you hear'. All I have to do is play the ITunes track in Winamp and press record in Sound Forge.

If anyone wants to pass it along, go to www.yousendit.com and email me the file. My email address is the_lost_barilko@yahoo.com

I'm at work so I haven't tried, but can people in the U.S. get it? It maybe a stupid question, sorry...

On another note...the last time I check wasn't it still called the "music business"? I have no problem paying for unreleased material...that's the problem with doing something nice (IVL releases) for free, when you charge for it people don't like it.

naaa, i prefer just to call it music...

that's not to say that musicians shouldn't be able to make a living making music that only means that i get pissed when a computer company is telling me that if i don't want to listen to the music i love on their terms then i can't listen to it at all.

borgs – I can certainly hear some of the things you have posted in this thread – but don't blame Apple.

Why does Apple have to sell compressed - DRM encoded songs?

…Because people steal music.

Blame the record company, blame yourselves.

I like the idea of purchasing music digitally - and would certainly prefer flac files with no restrictions… But Apple is offering what they can. Hopefully, someday, we will get lossless, ‘open’ files when we purchase new music online.

Why do we have locks on the doors to our house / apartment / car / locker? So no one steals our stuff.

It’s so easy to hate the ‘evil’ record companies… It’s amazing to me how sometimes we don’t look to ourselves a little more.

If I know the Pearl Jam story correctly, they have not resigned with a label and may look into releasing their next album themselves. How cool - the band deciding how to distribute and sell their own material.

…Looks like that could be the future. If they decide to sell in online music stores like iTunes, they could make the majority of that 99 cents.

i understand that all this is a kind of reaction to the free downloading craze that started with napster. some people are fine with it, i have some issues with it... my tough luck i guess. maybe i have too much faith in people supporting the bands they like without being coerced into supporting a big corporation along the way.

my only question now is why does itunes call this an unreleased track... it got released... yesterday. it's one thing to sell it, it's another thing to try and use the rare/unreleased thing as a marketing strategy. the road apples outakes, fully completely and day for night demos... those are unreleased (funny how neither the hip nor their former management seem to upset about the lack of cash they made off people having those). kinda weird how the hip cut 15 or so songs in the studio with the intention of making money off 12 or 13 of 'em.

i can't see myself not purchesing this tune at some point in the next day or so... just voicing some displeasure bout the situation...

hey jerremy lets work together for a sec, you seem to know a lot about the technology at work here, i have a question.

if i download the thing and burn it to cd then can i rip it to mp3, not for stealing or selling purposes, just so i can listen to it in playlist with my other songs and do what i please with it ??

let me know, thanks.

Yup. You can even use iTunes for that whole process. Just ensure your importing settings are set to MP3.

Download=>Burn=>Import (in MP3) and you are set.

Hey borgs,

cferneyh is right on. You can burn it right from iTunes, then you can rip that to whatever format you like.

Also, there are many free apps that will do it without the CD burn.

iTunes have 'Exclusive' tracks... I believe these tracks have been set to be sold only via the iTunes store for a certain amount of time.

I think the new U@ album is also listed as 'Exclusive' as only iTunes can sell the album electronically for a specified amount of time.

For me here in the US, I am upset that I can't purchase the track.

It's odd to see that in the US store, there are 2 versions of IBE, The EP, UTH, RA, ILV. On the Canadian store, UBE, M@W, LBU and the new track.

I hear it has to do with the record company negotiating the sale of their specific releases to specific countries. What a bummer. Why wouldn't they want to have these tunes available in all stores?

Ah well... Maybe I can PayPal a nice Canadian $1 and they can purchase the track for me and convert it and send it to me… But I’m sure that’s technically illegal as well.

Maybe Apple can help to break down these music borders… Here’s hoping.

They don't want Americans buying it from the Canadian site because its actually cheaper in Canada. And its way cheaper than what they charge in parts of Europe. Although this still doesn't explain why its not offered at all in the US (even for the slightly higher price.)

PS the article's reference to being a 'mountie' is really dumb.
