The Hip BT Tracker is gaining in popularity which means that I am getting more and more questions about how to use it, and more specifically, BT Clients.

So I'll put the question out there: What client do you use, and why? As well, please post a link to the download page for your software.

I'll compile the answers, and put up a FAQ page.

I use an old Shadow client. At the time I got it, it was highly recommended on Sharing the Groove as the best client out there. I've used it ever since. I can't compare it to anything else, and I've never even bothered to update to a newer version since getting it. I just tried going to the web page, and was forwarded directly to the BitTornado site. It looks like that is the name of the new Shadow client, so I suppose they're one-in-the-same.

Bit Tornado here too and I'm a big fan of it. Seems very user friendly and I don't recall much in the way of configuration problems. I get great speeds and the biggest piece of advice I would offer is to learn how to open/forward your bit torrent ports.

Tornado all the way. I haven't ever used anything else. And it looks that's the 5-1 favourite so far!

I'm using 'BitTornado'. Very simple, and easy to use......(thats why i am using it) I couldn't figure out this whole bitttornt things for months. Untill i downloaded this client, and i have been able to download 2 shows now...... : )

For user-friendliness, you can't find a better program than the original BitTorrent. You install it and that's it, no worries about configuration or whatever, it just does its job and doesn't provide an option for changing settings which could get some users in trouble.

I've tried BitTornado and that works well also-especially if you want to have options and change settings and whatnot. I haven't tried any of the others so I can't comment on those.

Basically I'd recommend original BitTorrent to the common user, and BitTornado to an advanced user.

I've been using Torrentstorm, I'll have to give Tornado a try. Nothing wrong w/Storm, but maybe I'm missing something?

One thing I've never done, or attempted to do is create and upload torrents. Is that all handled by the tracker? If so, do I just point to the folder (naming all the files/folder by the rules of course!) and let the tracker do the rest? I'll check out etree for a how-to. Anyone have a nice how-to link?

I use Azureus on my Linux server, this way it is not interrupted when I play Half Life 2 on my Windows box!!!

bit comet, its azureus - the huge pull on system resources

I use Azureus because it's robust and does anything torrent-related you can imagine. One window controls everything from downloading & seeding to creating & uploading. You can customize the display to show as much or as little information as you prefer and a series of tabs for each torrent tells you everything that's going on with that particular torrent. It's a perfect client for power-users.

It can even manage IRC chat sessions. Plus, the little blue frog logo is cool as hell: 8) :thumb:

I started with TorrentStorm and it worked well but I didn't like the fact that it opened a separate window for each torrent. It was more difficult for me to keep track of everything.
