Woodstock 2005
#1

If you type Woodstock 2005 in google there are all kinds of reports of plans for Woodstock 2005 and it being held in Canada! I would die happy if the HIP headlined this!

This is said to be from the woodstock.com newsletter.....

"Woodstock's newest installment Woodstock 2005 will feature over 50 bands and tons of activites that are out of this world.

Due to the destruction of Woodstock 99 we have been forced to move the festival to a different place, this year we're going to rock one of the biggest cities in Canada.....Toronto!

Woodstock 2005 will take place July 13th, 14th, and 15th 2005.

Some of the bands that have been confirmed are:

Linkin Park
Eminem
Black Sabbath
Eric Clapton
The Police
Blink 182
Green Day
Slipknot
and
Metallica

Plus a special guest (hint: When these guys play it'll be so hot you're gonna be wishing for some "November Rain".)"

Yeah....right...

I remember seeing something very similar for Woodstock 2004 in Toronto which of course was extremely false. It had both Pearl Jam and The Hip listed. Anyone that's kept up with PJ knows they'll never play a general admission show again so I think it's just somebody wishing things up.

I think it might happen. There was a lot of talk about a Woodstock every 5 years after '94 and there was one in 99 but NY State's bluff turned out not to be a bluff this past summer (re: "never again") and so I think there will be a lot of appeals made to venues in Canada and the US to have Woodstock IV. And Downsview Park has proven that it can accomodate the event on 2 occassions (WYD & SARSTOCK). It's a given that the HIP would play if it was there. And if not I'd settle for Another Roadside Attraction at Downsview. As for GnR, GnR is washed up and so it wouldn't be hard to get them to play any gig let alone this one, Axl would be glad to play it. But it would not include the other original members that are in Velvet Revolver as they have clearly said that it will never happen, odds are better Bret Hart will come back and wrestle Vince McMahon in a loser goes to hell match in the WWE. Also, the Woodstock 2004 webpages which still come up on searches if you look- list the Tragically Hip ONLY as a band that fans have suggested perform should there have be one.

I was thinking the same thing as others about The Police but who knows. I know Sting called it the best move of his career to leave that band. I personally love The Police and always hoped for another album from them. Yes, I know I'm dreaming.

It was definitely the best move of Sting's career financially, but artistically he's done nothing but go downhill. Anything he's put out solo pales in comparison to the work the Police did. Sad

I don't see how another Woodstock could ever happen after what took place in '99. The chaos, senseless destruction, and altogether lack of artistic presense forever tainted the concept, at least, in my opinion.

I agree with you Jenna. They should have stopped at the first anniversary. I've been to Saugerties,NY, it was just this past summer. I can't see how they handled it!!!

I agree with the talk about the Police. However, I believe they did play together at someone's wedding or something like that.

In all, I think the Woodstock festivals, outside of the first one, do not reflect the original nor can the original be duplicated.

I'd like to know how many people at the second Woodstock really knew about the first Woodstock. Like did they really know about the meaning behind it or did they think it was just an excuse to do drugs and slide in the mud. I know I have a very well to do cousin who went and they had a great time. I wonder if she knew where the first one was actually held.

All of a sudden there is serious talk of Woodstock 2009 which would be the 40th Anniversary! There is an on line petition and a HUGE facebook group Woodstock 2009 and some smaller ones too. Here's hoping it becomes a reality. And here's hoping the HIP play at it. At Woodstock '99, it was an amazing unforgettable experience to see about 25,000 Canadians and a sea of Canadian flags in front of 150,000 people all in front of the stage when the HIP came on. Not to mention it would be nice to see all the other bands and singers that would be performing at this 3 day up-state New York concert.
