Those discount beers are all owned by the big companies anyways. It's not like Coors or Molson are losing any $$$ on them, because they own them. As for the beer itself, it's probably similar to draft...headache in a bottle. I bought a couple of cases of Carling light and tried the lucky, but they both gave me hangovers. I guess paying the extra bit of money is worth the clear head in the morning. Once and a while I'll drive out to Quebec...geez, talk about free enterprise out there.

Lakeport, Lucky, Carling, Laker, etc... none of the value brands give me gut rot, or hangovers.
Lakeport is an independent, brewed in Hamilton.
Lucky is a Labatt property.
Carling is a Molson property.
Laker is a Brick Brewing property.

I don't think this counts but on my way home from work I picked up a six of Red Cap (stubbies that just made their way West!) and a six of Heiniken but we ended up drinking them all with dinner (between three of us). Whooohooo on-the-way-to-drunken Hipbase!

I've got some Red Cap in my fridge right now too. It's been my favorite "standard" Ale since it's return a couple of years ago. It seems to go down sooo easily. I've had a hell of a time finding it this summer though. It's been "sold out" at just about every beer store that I've been in from Sudbury to London all year. I've finally been able to get it during the last couple of weeks.
I'd rather be drinking Guinness, Killkenny, or some other rich creamy brew given the choice though. I usually save that for the more special occasions though. I can't afford to be drinking Guinness everyday.

I actually meant Red Cap. I loved them when I was going to school in the Hammer but they only JUST made their way out to Vancouver (where I now live). It was a nice suprise when I walked into the Liquor store (no Beer stores out here...Bah!) and saw them in the display case, after that particular day at work it was a welcome sight.
Red Stripe is also a great beer but again hard to find out here.
Anyone ever had Boch beer?? Had a great brand of it in Texas, of all places, I think the name was Shiner Boch...really tasty.
