This was a post that was dug up from 2 years ago. I knew nothing about getting concert tickets then, and since I've learned a whole lot. I'd rather not dig up old complaints, as I no longer feel the way I did when I posted this thread. And frankly, I'm more than a bit embarrassed. I'm removing the original post. Thanks for understanding.

I understand your pain...but I think generally the presales are hit and miss. Only a limited number of seats go on sale at that time. Sometimes people even with HipClub privileges maybe can't get online the day of the pre-sale...in which case, they'll have to try with the general public. Either way, good blocks of seats are available for both pre-sale and regular sale to the general public. Or perhaps, just maybe, the general public will be buying tix for a huge Hip fan as a present...in which case maybe they don't even realise there is a HipClub. I've done that in the past for bands (buying tix for my kids...only later come to find out certain bands also have fan club passwords that I was unaware of, that only my kids knew about, since I don't listen to their music).
I went on TM at 10am yesterday...typed in the password, the security word...and then front row (Row A) popped up for me right away...so I do know good tix were available. It's just tough when 100 (or more) people...like in this forum...all login at the SAME TIME...some people have dial-up, some cable modem, some DSL (like me)...it's a matter of the right timing...sometimes a couple seconds makes all the difference in the world!
But hey, it's a great venue...you have decent seats...you'll enjoy the show!!

The point with that being there's a lot of talk about we take fans into consideration blah blah blah but really this is proof positive that's not true. Oh well.

hey all...
Wanna offer up a few tips I've learned about getting GOOD tickets over the years (sorry if I insult anyone's intelligence).
Purchase presale and see what you get.
Purchase regular sales and see what you get.
Keep checking DAILY with ticketmaster to see what's available. A lot of times people purchase tickets and then their crdit limit is exceeded so they go back into the pool. Often times, blocks of reserved seats (radio station promos etc.become available wihtout notice sometimes. Floor/stage arrangements are re-arranged opening up more seats. UNfortunately that won't happen at the fox as it's a Theatre.
Keep the good seats, sell the shitty ones via Ebay or whatever. Unfortunately this requires ample cashflow...but that's what credit cards are for right :wink:
If all else fails go to the ticket agencies (scalpers) and call them often as well (change yer voice :wink: ). The closer to show time the cheaper they get.
Just keep trying. If there's a will there's way. :mrgreen:

I always interpreted pre-sales as a way to make sure that the dedicated fans even GET tickets... not that the necessarily get the best tickets....
And as for getting raped by TicketMaster... I don't think the cost is any different, whether you buy the tickets in the pre-sale or the general public sale.

they tell you before you click "purchase" what the seat location is. If you dont like the seats, dont buy them. AND, dont then bitch to them afterwards. they didnt force you to buy them.
I actually dont recall anywhere in the hipclub membership saying they would give you "close seats". they just said they would offer tickets exclusively to the members of the club. which they did. there is no guarantee FOR ANYONE through any method to get good seats. Some people might prefer to be back by the soundboard because the sound is better. Does that make it a better seat? some people like the balcony.
Anna is wrong, thats not how presales work. The presales are randomly selected around the entire venue some are close, some are far. they want to reserve SOME good seats for the public too. they only sell a certain % of seats at the presale, but they are all over the place.

This is not directly the fault of The Hip Club. It's more a TicketBastard / Clear Channel thing.
My experience with TB pre-sales: there are a few (5-10?) choice seats (center sections, 1st five rows), but the bulk of them are side sections somewhat close or center sections starting at least 20 rows back (usually farther for shed shows).
In general, the TB pre-sale is used to sucker the novice ticket buyer into thinking a show is really selling quickly so the person will panic and buy seats that might be a tougher sell. This is not always the case - it depends on the band and preceived demand for a show.
Having said this, I wish The Hip Club would have used the pre-sale format used for the Hamilton NYE shows where you had to enter your Hip Club ID and password in order to get in. I got front row just off center for nye and 12th row for 12/30. That's the way a fan club pre-sale should work.
