93.9 The River here in the Detroit area has changed their format to somewhat of an Adult Alternative with some rare classics thrown in. Monday was the first day and I have heard the Hip on there a couple times already (olders stuff).
The station plays new stuff from the likes of Death Cab for Cutie and the Killers so hopefully they will play "In View"... they are asking for suggestions via email!
here is the email:

I have been listening to The River since the format change. I also have heard them playing The Hip a number of times. It's nice to see our favorite band get some airplay during normal listening hours in Detroit. Their sister station 89X CIMX (88.7) ocasionally plays The Hip too. But the only time I have heard it there was very early in the morning (5 to 6 am) when not many people might be listening.
Spottrax I used your link to request that the station play the new Hip song, In View. :thumb:

It appears that The River will begin playing The Hip's new song starting tomorrow, on 9-7-06. Take a look at the e-mail I sent this morning titled, "New Tragically Hip Song", and the response I received this afternoon.

Thanks so much for your feedback! We added the new song today so you can hear it tomorrow in the 4am and 2pm hours. We are adding new music every day so keep the suggestions coming and keep listening. You never know when a song you haven't heard in a long, time but loved will come up.
Sincerely,

Heard "In View" today again on 93.9fm Windsor/Detroit radio! Hip on the airwaves had become almost non-exixtant here and now at least once or twice a day? COOL!
Hey all of the Detroit area Hip fans, KEEP emailing and calling the station. no matter what side of the great "In View" debate you are on, it would be nice to help our favorite band get some really serious airplay!
Also, they played Boots or Hearts and In View yesterday (in the few hours I had it on)... Very Nice

The River has really taken to playing Tragically Hip songs. They play The Hip about 5 times a day during regular listening hours with at least two of those spins being "In View". They play other popular Hip songs from many different albums. This may not be very amazing to listeners of other Canadian radio stations, but until recently The Hip had little or no radio play in Windsor/Detroit.
Today I heard In View at 7:00 am and 5:00 pm today. The morning DJ mentioned the name of the new album and the release date while urging listeners to check out the band's website, thehip.com. The evening drive DJ mentioned all the same info and added that Gord Downie was making solo appearances in support of the clean water effort/Heart of a Lake Tour. I know it's not really a big deal, but I find it amazing. I really get pumped up when I hear The Hip on my local radio station.

Amen to that Hugh! I've heard IAGLIYDW several times now on there (as well as In View and several others). I always thought that folks up in the Toronto area were spoiled but damn, it''s as if someone brougth us the Tragically Hip exclusive station here in Detroit! They also play Sam Roberts quite a bit too! Lets hope this continues for a long time! :thumb:

ALthough not directly in referance to the River, 95.1 played albums all Labor day weekend. I had the pleasure of hearing Fully Completly cover to cover with no commercials. Just some cool stories about the band and what the sings were about. ANy Hip that can be received in the Motor City is welcome as far as I am concerned.
PS I don't post much but I read alot

The River plays a wide variety of Hip songs everyday. "In View" is a regular on the station's play list. I e-mailed the assistant program director again, trying to get "Yer Not the Ocean" onto their play list. The River is promoting both Detroit Hip concerts. Below is the response from my e-mail inquiry:
===============================================
Hi Hugh,
Thanks for your input on The Hip. I'm sure we will play The Hip's 2nd single...In View is the highest rated song in our music survey right now so we won't be dropping that song anytime soon.
Take Care,

Subject: New Tragically Hip Song Released
Tania,
You responded to my request to play The Tragically Hip's previous new release, "In View", in September 2006. It is now in regular rotation on your radio station's play list. My e-mail program automatically saved your e-mail address from our correspondence last year. As an assistant program director, I am making a direct request to you to please play the 2nd new Tragically Hip single, "Yer Not the Ocean" which was recently released from their new CD, World Container. Adding a new Tragically Hip song to your play list would go along well with the fact that 93.9 The River is promoting both Tragically Hip concerts at the State Theater on April 12th &13th.
The World Container CD was released in Canada on October 17, 2006. The U.S. release date of the CD is March 6, 2007. I am a very big fan of The Tragically Hip. I enjoy the fact that their music is played regularly on your station. Please add the new Hip single, "Yer Not the Ocean" to your play list. Keep playing all The Tragically Hip classics along with The Hip's first release of "In View". I appreciate you taking the time to read this. I hope I was not too forward in contacting you directly.
Thank you,
Hugh

River listeners are asked to take an online music survey and rate the songs in the survey. "In View" appears to be very popular in the Detroit Metro area because it rated high in the survey and as I stated earlier it is played frequently on The River 93.9. I have e-mailed two different people at the station trying to get "Ocean" played. I have received a lukewarm response both times, but I am still holding out hope that it will get some air play in Detroit.
Detroit Area Hip Fans: E-mail The River at the link provided in the original post and request "Yer Not the Ocean".
