A double opener of Mr. Roberts followed by OLP, then the Hip.

Oh goodness that would be sweet! :thumb:

So true. I was blown away by Wayne when I caught them at the two Hip San Francisco shows, even more so when I found out that they are from my hometown of Birmingham, AL. Sadly, there's been no news on the Wayne front so they may have gone the way of the Dodo, which is a shame. Great band and great songs.

Did an absolutely brilliant job of openning up at Edgefest. I'd take them over Sam Roberts every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Yeah the "4 a.m." / "Superman's Dead" years were the best... Ever since I saw that video where Raine had the friggin Chinese symbol painted on the side of the head, I've been ignoring them. What a way to show how deep you are; by using Chinese symbols! Not very many people can read them anyway! Bunch of f**kin sell-outs... unoriginal bastards...

Couldn't disagree with you more. Great songwriter, energetic live show. I find a lot of criticism (Especialy the "sell out" stuff) comes their way (As with many bands who've been sucessful at what they do, Hip included) due to their popularity, they've earned it IMO. "Unoriginal bastards?" That's a pretty strong statement to leave hanging, mind backing that up? Did Raine steal your lunch money?

As for the Kathleen Edwards suggestion above: That'd be fantastic.

they went from writing ground-breaking original sounding hard rocking music to making watered down uninspired radio fodder. they went from making bold artistic statements with their albums and the accompanying artwork, to having virtually no artistic merit and a big picture of themselves on the cover of their last cd. WTF happened to sol? this was the band that shot short films just for their tour, and now their music videos are like fucking cell-phone commercials, pure and utter garbage. as far as i'm concerned OLP ended when Mike Turner left, everybody knows that he was the driving force behind the band, and when he left it all went straight down the crapper.

Yeah, Mike Turner was a big part of the good sound they had going. On the new CD, the only songs I could get into were the ones that he had writing credits on.

Another thing though, is that with the new album, they switched producers. Naveed, Clumsy, Happiness and Spiritual Machines were ALL produced by Arnold Lanni, the new one is from Bob Rock.

I'd actually heard rumours that Arnold Lanni was the real creative genius behind OLP's albums and that he more or less told the band what to do. I even heard that Raine was the only musician from the band who actually is on the recording of Naveed.

It sounds crazy I know, but the exact same thing happened with Finger 11. They had two albums with Arnold Lanni that were pretty great in my opinion, and then when they left Arnold, they totally changed their style to something a little more...pop.

All speculation of course...probably outrageous lies...
