I got a kick out of Chad Johnson. He's an amazing player but him talking about payback and how he'll get the player who flattened him in week 2 was ridiculous. He was acting as if he's gonna fight the guy when he sees him. I can imagine CJ in a fight. There would be more slapping than any cat fight. CJ should just play the game and forget about all that "tough" talk, like he's earning street cred or something.

Where did you see / hear this stuff? If it was the same stuff I heard, I'm pretty sure it's more about showing that he can take what is dealt, and exacting revenge in football terms, as in racking up some yards and scores, than it is about administering physical retribution.

Chad is one of the most misunderstood players in the NFL. At first, I thought he was all "me, me, me" and spouting arrogant smack, but after awhile, I've gained some insight into his mindset. Much of what he says sounds like egocentric trash-talk, and if you take it all literally, it is. But most of it all is just a tactic -- a game of spirited banter played just for effect, for the dual purpose of making a name for himself around the league and getting some backward edge on the competition. The funny thing is that it has worked to perfection. You'd think this would constitute a disruption in his own lockerroom, but I would argue that it actually causes a distraction for opposing DBs.

He definitly has a high opinion of his abilities, and he definitely thinks he cannot get the ball enough -- but not only do I think that is a method of self-motivation and a characteristic of many top-flight skill-position athletes, I also think it is a type of strategy that seems to work very well in "getting into the heads" of his opponents.

I used to dislike Chad for his smacktalk and his antics, but after becoming familiar with him and his m.o., I have actually grown somewhat fond of him and am genuinely entertained by him -- which is rare for me concerning athletes of that sort of profile.

yeah, well i would have hit the $1000 bonus if i'd had two more against the spread so i was kind of bummed for that reason but i'll take 11-3 every week, don't get me wrong. See everyone on Thursday!
