[The Nth Degree]

Has anyone else run into the guys on the street, etc? Before their show(M@W tour)at the Bottle and Cork in Dewey Beach, DE I ran into Gord, Johnny, and Gord Sinclair walking up the road to a diner. They were all wearing flip-flops and were really nice. Also, chatted with Gord briefly before his solo show at the Ram's Head in Annapols, MD. Very cool and down to earth cat.

Ran into Paul in the elavator of the Hotel we were staying at a few hours prior to their Evening With Tour. He was really cool.

Ran into Johny the next morning in the elevator and ended up walking with him to the hotel restaurant.....he was really cool.

Bumped into Gord D. when I was leaving my room the next day, he was apparently staying on the same floor as me. I must say he was a bit of a dick. Just ignored me pretty much and kept walking past after I said "Hi, great show last night'. Must've been tired or something.

Paul used to live across the street from one of my best friends. It was almost too much to look across the street and see him there everyday.

I met them after a PP tour show in Hartford (saw them in Burlington, Hartford, Long Island 3 nights is a row). I was front row and made a small '50MC' sign because it was hockey playoff time (I also parked in front of their tour bus a stuck the sign on the back of my car in case Gord S. noticed it while writting the setlist!). Anyway, I didn't think they would play it (they didn't) but I asked Gord about it afterwards, he was really cool, he said he saw the sign and they had discussed it during the encore break but it didn't work out. I got a stage setlist from the show and the whole band signed it which is framed on my wall (Gord wrote a message that is difficult to read, maybe some never used lyrics!). Bobby B and Paul hung out for a long time talking to us outside the venue, really awesome evening.

Well, it probably doesn't qualify as 'cool' but I spoke with Gord D. for a few minutes after he did a poetry reading at the National Library (he also played 'Into the Night' and 'Figment' solo at the same event). I mentioned the 'Dark Canuck' as a comment on the War on Terror, and he seemed to dig that, leaning back making 'honking' motions and saying how much he loved the image of people blasting their horns at the defeat of the (cartoon) enemy. And he kindly signed my copy of CMG, which was later stolen or lost in a move, much to my aggravation.

One note---he seemed a stich hard of hearing. Perhaps not surprsing. Or maybe I was mumbling out of shyness cratch:

When I was at McMaster in the early '90s, our residence's hallmaster was the campus programmer. Often, he'd have bands over to his place when they were playing on campus, and he'd invite some of the students to hang out with them. I met the Hip that way, before a Frosh Week show (I think it was '90 or '91 -- the show's not listed in the setlist archive), and Sloan once as well. Also Lou Diamond Philips, who is quite short.

I've ususally met them either right before or after shows...but...

I saw them shopping a few hours before their set at Grape Jam in PA, shopping in one of the hippie boths.

Also saw Rob and his family, along with Paul and his family at Darien Lake two summers ago before their show.

Lastly, I saw Rob at Virigin Records at Downtown Disney in Orlando two years ago during the IVL tour...in mid-afternoon. And then Gord was at Wolfgang Puck's for dinner a short time later.

Gord D. took the longest to come out and when he finally did, he was holding a bundled up towel pretending he was holding a baby. Alongside him was his tour manager, they almost slipped by as a couple strolling by with their baby in arms.

I met him at that same event! It was my first time meeting him and I was a bit shy/nervous, but he was extremely cool and down to earth, which made it very easy to talk to him. He's a great guy, and he genuinely seems to appreciate his fans.

Hey Dire Wolf, that was a cool gig, wasn't it? He seemed so mortified to be reading his own poetry, but you could tell he was getting into it at the end. That nascent charisma can't help but come through.

Met Gord D. after his solo show in Halifax. He was such a mess, I have no idea what he said to me of wrote on my cd cover...

I meet Rob and Paul at the Casino in Halifax in 2002. Paul was drunk and just wanted to play some BlackJack. Rob is a nice guy, I couldn't say much becuase I was working.

met Gord D. when i was workin at virgin records in vancouver..he was looking for the new ry cooder "project" as he called it..the buena vista social club..we were sold out which i hated to tell him, but he was cool...i asked him what it's like walking around and being recognized..i'll never forget what he said.."it could be worse..i could be bryan adams..." and then he chuckled...very nice guy

Haha, I remember that, the tour manager was saying that the baby was sick and they needed to get goin quickly that night...it was a doll or a bunch of towels wrapped up like one. Gord still stopped, handed of the baby to her making a funny comment about it, said hello signed a few posters and was on his way.

They could have just said they were tired or needed to get moving, the whole fake baby thing was pretty funny though. Then again, maybe it was a real baby, if so I don't think it could have breathed to well wrapped up like that, haha...good times.

I've also met them in Syracuse and NYC. Have pics with each of them, they were all very nice and down to earth.

Hope they do the small venue thing again...it seems impossible to meet them at large shows.

Any suggestions or tips on how ot meet the band after shows? I've only seen them in large venues.

Is it easier to see them when they play in the States (since they're less popular there) or is it tougher (since there are more hardcore fans that travel all the way there to see them?

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY easier the further south you go. They come out and mingle with you and have some beers and just shoot the breeze. I've had the best luck at two separate House of Blues shows...also, had a great one hour conversation with Rob Baker in Rochester, of all places, after a radio gig they did during the PP tour.

At big venues in Canada, it's almost impossible to meet them or speak with them, unless you have backstage passes.

Make plans to head south on this tour, and you'll be glad you did (if you want to meet them, that is).
