Just curious really and figured it might be worthy of discussion; anybody here in a band or were in a band? Solo act? If not, anybody play an instrument or two?
I've been writing songs since I was 12 or 13 and in the last 7 or 8 years I have been in about 5 bands (give or take a drummer) that never made it out of the basement.... I'm mainly a singer but on my best days I can manage a couple chords on the guitar... but I seriously suck at keeping rhythm while singing.... I'm thinking of getting a band together and calling it "The Wendigo(e)s" but I don't know yet...

I played in a few bands during my younger years. One of them actually managed to make it out of the basement, into the clubs, and then out to the rest of the country on a couple of cross-Canada tours. Man, those were some good times. Along the way we were lucky enough to open for the likes of the Skydiggers, Ron Hawkins (from the Lowest of the Low), and believe it or not, Our Lady Peace. Their first album "Naveed" had just been released and they were touring across Canada in a beat-up old van. We opened for them in Calgary at a long-defunct bar called The Factory. 3 people showed up to see us play, and then the audience grew to about 10 people by the time OLP went on. True story!

I'm in a band, I play guitar and sing. Actually, we're practicing at midnight tonight! Gonna record a CD soon I think.

Like I said, we never made it out of the basement.

I was in a coupla bands and have been jamming off and on these days. The most I ever really did was play a few shows in Ottawa, nothing big though. We also recorded a 3 songs EP that I'm still fairly proud of to this day.

I've messed around a little in a couple bands. I joined one recently, but quit a week later... because the band did more dreaming about being rock stars than actually practicing. I wasted 9 hours in one weekend waiting around to jam, so I said enough of this crap and quit.
The the singer of Grindig... I know your bass player Hank (somewhat). I met him in Walkerton years ago, when my best friend lived with a buddy of Hank's, and saw him again in Kitchener, when my friend lived with Hank's friend (again.)
I've never seen you guys play, but remember hearing that you had won a radio contest of some kind.

Was it Baker?

Yep, it was Baker. It sure is a small world.
I actually met up with a couple of Baker's buddies in Hanover (when I was over there wasting time with the band that I lasted a week in) that I hadn't seen in years.

Yeah, you probably would know them.
We were warming up to get ready to jam at the Hanover Inn (that is where this band jammed until the bar opens) and someone came in and asked if we knew any Slipknot. I turned around and it was Matt W. (who I hadn't seen in years.) I said no, and he replied with "I bet you know lots of Metallica" (I'm fairly well known as being a huge Metallica fan.)
I thought that I'd see him around while jamming with the band, but that was the day that I quit. If I would have stuck it out, I'm sure I would have run into some of Baker's other buddies that I met years ago... but I just couldn't do it.
Are you checking out the Hip in Wasaga Sunday? I'll be there with Steve (the guy that used to live with Baker.)
