Yup these albums are both great. IVL moreso than M@W.
IVL is a fantastic album that ranks right up there with my favorites. Brillant stuff.

I am a huge huge hip fan, but I still say that they are the 2 worst albums. I like them, but they're still at the bottom of my list.

I am not the biggest fan of these two albums. But I really do like M@W because of its "pick me up" tempo. Plus, I have always liked Stay. I think its a solid tune and was personally suprised it was not more popular.

And the "balancing" lyrical poem deal at the end is just fun for the whole family IMO.

I agree that both albums have good replay value, but as a cohesive whole they left me a little wanting. Ultra Mundane is one of the best hip songs ever...I think it should have been the first single, not left off the album. It's a good life... is a good song, but my least fave on the disc (I can't understand why it was the first single, and perhaps the only single to get much U.S. airtime)
The Dark canuck is one of my top ten, great song, when gord does the WHAOO when the tempo shifts it is just hypnotic.
I make a lot of Hip mixes to give to friends and I almost always put on this song, as well as leave, the completists, and toronto #4.

IVL should have had Ultra Mundane instead of Are You Ready.
and Problem Bears instead of Leave.
Also, I love dark canuck but I hate the chorus's at the beggining....just a thought.....some great lyrics though......

At first listen I was a little thrown off by M@W and IVL, but now I've come to realize just how much I love both of these albums. The way I look at it, no matter what mood I'm in, there's always a Hip album that I'll want to listen to. Although the albums all have a different feel, they are all easily recognizable as being The Hip from first listen.
That being said, IBE has been spinning non-stop in my cd player since day 1.

Muisc@Work...tried to love it. Couldn't. I don't care for 'progressive rock' and that is as close as they've come to a 'prog rock' album...it's an exhausting listen.
IVL is much tighter, and has real peaks like 'Dire Wolf.' But the production is far too muted and deprives the band of that aura of menace that's all over their best work. Also, that's the only CD where Downie's lyrics seem wrong, somehow...too cerebral, too consciously 'poetic' and literary.
Now the NEW CD...it ROCKS!!! :thumb:
