If you had to choose between to two, who would you listen to and why?
Truthfully, I think I like Nickelback more than Avril (rather dislike them less) I think it's an insult to real artists/musicians to lump Avril in that category. At least Nickelback paid SOME dues by touring for years before they hit it big. Avril is just another example of the MTV generation ruining the music environment.

As much as I loathe both of them, if I had to pick...I would have to agree with you and go with Nickelback. YUCK. (for the same reasons you chose)

so give it a listen before you judge its music enjoy it

I like Nickelback somewhat, even though I'm not a huge fan. Avril is not really my cup o' tea - but I don't begrudge others who choose to listen to Avril. I mean, we all have our personal preferences - and this world would be a boring place if we all agreed on the same things.

Nickleback rocks, no doubt about it.... But Avril is hot.
It's weird though because I have seriously NO WOMEN ARTISTS in my music collection!? I thought about it for a moment when I read this post and I'm flipping through The Doors, The Hip, Kid Rock, Headstones, The Stones, etc etc etc.
But NO WOMEN!?! I seriously tripped myself out...
The only thing I have noticed with Nickelback (and many others) is there seems to be an opening in the industry for that style. So there are others that follow with a "new" band or artist. Like one comes out and they all come out. (3 Doors Down, TOAD,...)
The pop princesses (Spears, Aguilera, Simpson),
The white rappers (Vanilla Ice, Eminem, Kyrios),
The "goth"/"punk"/pop spectacles (Simple Plan, Linkin Park)
The dancing fools (Usher, Timberlake, Desmond)
The slacker-rockers (Sam Roberts, ummm, he's the only one, but more will follow)
(This is probably nothing new, though, you all know this)
Is it just record companies going with what works? Sequels and the recent Marvel-movie trend?

I enjoy Sarah Harmer a lot. I have cd's of Holly Mcnarland, Chantal Kreviazuk, and Sarah Harmer. I think Harmer is the most talented of the three. I used to really dig Chantal but her newest cd is way overly produced and I don't like it that much. I don't like the direction Chantal is going with her music and the fact that Raine and Chantal are fans of Avril means nothing to me. As far as Ben Moody goes, I hate Evanescence's music. Having Amy Lee say in every interview that she could sell more records if she used her body is laughable to me. I wouldn't buy her record is she showed more skin! Heck she sells shitloads of records now with very minimal talent so why should she bother stripping?
As far as listening to Avril and Nickelback, I try not to trust me! It's difficult when they are being played on the radio and on tv every second song. I mean, I have to have quick reactions to change the channel/station.
Generally, I am not a fan of artists who hit it big with their first cd. Music is supposed to be a art form which you can always improve and real musicians hone their craft with time. From what I've heard of Avril, I don't see a difference between her and Fefe Dobson anway. They both sing about boys and teen stuff. I won't say it really pisses me off but it does irritate me a bit to see these artists who haven't paid their dues hit it big. It doesn't affect me directly, BUT being hit over the head with music everywhere I turn (on the radio, tv, movies) that makes me yearn for death isn't my idea of fun. You can't avoid the "POPULAR" music because it is EVERYWHERE!
Finally, these are just my opinions and I think everyone should form their own opinion about music they like. I don't like Avril or Nickelback, some people do! GREAT! Don't let MTV or Much Music or the Grammys dictate what you buy. Heck, if someone told me that they just got the new Nick Carter cd and loved it, that'd be great! Just don't play the cd anywhere near me!

Ewww...What a horrible question! If those are my only choices, I think I'd rather just choose death.
