Are the Hip wealthy?
#1

Just curious, but have the Hip made good money playing music?

By all accounts it sounds like they are still all living in Kingston, living in regular neighbourhoods. I've never heard anything about Gord (or any of them) driving around in a 911 Turbo living in a walled mansion.

Not that that's necessarily what they would do if they had the money, just that they don't appear to be living the life you would associate with "rock stars".

Johnny drives a vintage pink BMW. 1973 or something I think.

But then again, he is a playa!

Glad to see there's some other Rock fans aboard. I'm off to put some 22 inch rims on my toaster. THEY SPINNIN'!!

Paul Langlois used to live across the street from my best friend in Kingston. His house was on the water, and he drove some sort of SUV I believe. Far from a mansion, but still rather nice.

I lived around the corner from Bobby Baker in K-town (he is at Victoria and Earl). His house was an average size.

I think Gordie is the only one who has his principal residence outside of K-town. He lives in Toronto.

Gord's house in Toronto is nice...and in a nice neighbourhood. Maybe he just wants to keep it on the down-low! Smile

I always wonder about Gord's house when I am in Toronto.
Not to stalk him - really.
Just the fact that the only part of Toronto I know is the downtown where there are no houses.
Always curious if he lived in a high rise, house, or what.

Think "Upper West Side" in NYC, or even better, if you could drop a chunk of Grenwich, CT on the outskirts of Manhattan: That's what Gord's hood is like. Green lawns, a mix of Victorian style and upper-middle class WWII era houses, but still close enough to the core that you can hear buses at night and find a street-meat dealer around the block.

The only $ figure I ever associate with The Hip...I heard they were paid a million dollars to play the NYE/NYD combo in '99. I assume their insurance went through the roof to be covered to play such a show, with all the risks that were involved that night, but ah, did anyone else hear that? I know I paid over $60 for one of the worst seats in the house, so it doesn't seem that absurd...

Everyone says "They still live in Kingston" like the town is a hole or something. Just because the guys still live in Kingston does not mean they aren't very well off. There is a lot of money in that town, you just have to know how to spot it. If you don't think so, just drive along King Street or go west on Bath Road along the waterfront.

No "Rideau Heights" are those neighbourhoods.

What is true wealth? Is it having money so you can do anything you want? It is having just enough so you're secure? It is having a happy life? Is is being successful?

I'd rather be weathy in the happiness department, which I am with my current relationship, than have all of the money in the world. We're really poor because my BF is out of work but I still feel like the luckiest woman in the world!
