That was a goal!
#1

I might live in Calgary, but I'm a Leaf fan. However, that was CLEARLY a goal by Gelinas. Shame on the NHL. First Hull in '99, now this. How difficult is it to get these things right?

Yeah, but he kicked it in.

Yup, definatly a goal. My home team just won the cup and it doesn't count! I guess they'll just have to humiliate Tampa in front of their own fans...

I dunno about that. Calgary outplayed Tampa in a lot of ways and still couldn't get the job done. They had SERIOUS trouble clearing their own zone and looked weak on defence a few times. Their powerplay is non-existant.

I really hope this Cinderella team can win on Monday, but it's increasingly looking like the clock has struck 12.

Tampa remember, has been the best team in the league since November. Calgary needs a miracle.

Kicked it in? Huh? He was stopping. A puck can go in off your skates, as long as it isn't a distinct kicking motion. And if you think it was a distinct kicking motion, then I think you need a TV with higher resolution.

As for your assertion that Calgary had serious trouble clearing their zone, every team is going to have serious trouble clearing their zone at some point or another throughout 80 minutes and 33 seconds of hockey. Tampa had a lot more trouble that Calgary did. Unfortunately, Khabibulin outplayed Kipper.

One word: conclusive. I didn't see one replay that would fit that category...

Just because you can see white between the puck and the goalline from a photo shot at 45 degrees to the play does not merit overturning the play as it was called on the ice...

Don't believe me? Try this little optical experiment yourself...take out a pencil and a coin and hold the coin (at a right angle) directly over the pencil...now rotate both slightly away from you...see the gap?

On to game 7...

I doubt they'll let Fraser ref game 7, he's way too iffy. About the goal, how could we tell from the blurry off angle we got to see it from? I'm sure they went over it a thousand times, agreed it would have been nice to see it for ourselves.

Go Tampa!

I don't think there's any doubt the puck was over the line. I'm just gald it didn't count since the guy was in the crease, it was kicked in (motion or no... it woulda been a cheap way to win) and Calgary didn't deserve to win that game anyway.

Objectivity can be a bitch sometimes, here's hoping the Flames step it up for Game 7.

On the Fraser thing:

Refs McCreary, Fraser to work Game 7

Doh!!!

As for the angle, look at it this way: if the overhead and goalline angles were both inconclusive (which they were, according to the NHL), which is the lesser of two evils? Having the Cup won on a "non goal" or allowing the game to be decided on a legitimate goal? Seems to me the league made the right call (non-call)...

I wonder how the NHL decides this stuff....I mean, Fraser didn't ref game 6, so does that mean it was a punishment for screwing up in the previous game with the two penalties at once? Or was it just an effort to avoid having people throwing things at him? If it was the latter I would be VERY disappointed because we can't all go into hiding when we do something wrong at work. We have to face the music!

I see your point , but at work you don't have 30,000 people ready to riot if you screw up, at work you don't have fans throwing garbage at you. If Fraser refs game 6 , Calgary loses and there are questionable calls, it can get ugly with that many drunk people in one place. Letting Fraser ref would also shift the focus from the game itself to the officiating and just prolong the controversy. The NHL pulled him for the sake of the game, not because they felt he did wrong , more as a preventitive measure, so it only makes sense he refs game 7, as a vote of confidence.

The puck was over the line , then it's a goal and should have counted , he did not kick it in and therefore it should count. He's in the crease , so what ? The puck was there first and he has every right to be there . They didn't deserve to win ? They came back from two deficits to tie the game , they outshot and outplayed Tampa , they deserved the win and they deserved not to be screwed . Now i'm not saying it was intentional, no one knew it was in when it happened, but they deserved to win.

I personally am on the "no goal" side since this IS the Stanley Cup Final and we could not be 100% absolutely positively swear-on-mother's-grave sure it was a goal. It was marginal.

But I'm not trying to pick fights with anyone so I will say that I believe Calgary has what it takes to win game 7 FAIR AND SQUARE, and this little but of controversy will be looked back on as a good thing because Calgary didn't win the Cup on an iffy goal/non-goal. Nobody wants to win a Cup and have the legacy haunting them forever - li ke Brett Hull's illegal goal in 99 that we all still talk about. Calgary fans wou ld be defending their team for all eternity if that had been the Cup winning goal.

I saw the footage last night/today and I said it wasn't in. I saw new pictures/footage tonight and yes, it was in. Too bad.

Guess they'll have to win it on the road again.

I too said it was not in...but last night I saw an angle that makes it quite clear that Bulin did NOT get his pad across in time. The puck struck his leg pad right on the red line but rolled a little across it, diagonally along the length of the pad, before Bulin got his foot kicked out. I now believe it was a goal, and I never thought it was a kicking motion Gelinas made.
