Inventory

I pass the refrigerator
and see that apples and deception
have made the grocery list again this week,
along with ground beef, broke promises,
evaporated milk, salad dressing, false advertising,
and croutons.

I stuff the list in my purse
and head out to the car.
Our cat sits on the hood
(he used to be mine, remember?)
licking his paws as though
they were covered in cream.

He jumps off, runs, at the sound of the engine.
I take the long way to the store
and think.
About the day we met,
my first time in your bed
and the day of your sister’s wedding.

You had toasted her, saying that you
one day hoped to meet a girl
who made you as happy as
her new husband, has clearly made her,
oblivious to the fact that you were still holding my hand.

The lights of Route 309
shining in the distance
blur my vision.
You had promised me so much,
more than I knew what to do with.

Through my anger, my tears,
I try to remember the romantic trips
to the city,
and the times we’ve built snowmen
after the first flakes fall.

It is an effort, vain and foolish.
Long, lazy weekends in bed have
gave way to
fast food and routine sex.
A night at the theatre
has been replaced with
movies OnDemand
and love?
Comfort and ease will have to suffice.

We went from the same page,
to two totally different books,
we were together, in the moment
now I stand alone.

Your hear what I am saying,
but you're not listening

I grow restless at night thinking about you
how you turn my life upside down
yet I can not get enough

maybe you're trying to hold me off
there are other things in your life
that you need to focus on
besides me

but why keep me on the end of the rope?
you might as well cut me off
before I hang myself

Something I posted on the forum a while ago...

The Pied Piper Of Canada

Spouting off words like some rock star sage
Arms flailing, head bobbing
He's an odd terpsichore of the stage

Like some pied piper, his voice transfixes the crowd
Entranced in his lyrics, they sing along
Eyes widened in excitement and very wowed

If he messess up a lyric they don't care
He's a goddamed genius
And they are thrilled to just be breathing the same air

He sings of far away places and some not too far
He sings about hockey, cops in love
He even sings about vaccination scars

A rock star that writes poetry, for he is a sensitive man
His name is Gordon Downie
And The Tragically Hip are his Band

and this is one I wrote about a former boyfriend who is a hip fan and a drummer...

You'll never write like Gord
You'll never play like Fay
You'll wake to find someday
You'll always be tragic
But you'll never be hip

and I have a really good one I wrote about this ex but I don't want to post it publicly.

I've met the man from Nantucket.
The stories about him are GREATLY exagerated.

i love it! very cool!!!! do you write alot? it seems as though you might. :thumb:

I've been an amature writer for 15 years. I've written stuff that's been published online and offline and I've won awards for my writing. I'm not much of a poet, I'm more of a fiction writer and unfortunately, when the jerks at Gateway reformatted my hard drive they wiped out ALL of my late 90's/early 2000's writing.
