Attention, all American Hipsters!!
#1

How about starting a petition of some sort to help the Hip get more recognition in the States. I really wish Canadian music have been added to NAFTA - do you guys feel that way, too?

Well, I'm not an American poster, but I'll glady sign your petition.

If they call and ask me where I live, I can easily fake an American accent: skedual, up on the ruf, I'd like to visit Mon-Tree-All and Tor-On-To. See, I've got it down.

And while we're renegotiating the FTA, how's about we send you more Canadian music (Excluding of course, female singers, of which you already have a surplus...) and some Ketchup potato chips, and in exchange you send us one of those loveable talking cats you have (Garfield, Morris, or that cat from that witch TV show will do) and some un-crazy cows?

Deal?

That's right! Totally agree! One of these days I'm gonna have to take a trip down South to see them in one of those timy clubs!

Well, I guess that is one way of looking at it. Wink I'm not just talking about the Hip, though - I'm talking about Canadian artists in general. It can be very frustrating to go to a record store - and find out that they don't carry CDs by certain Canadian artists. Harlequin is one example of such an artist. Also, it can be very frustrating that non-Canadians cannot access www.puretracks.com - I'm glad that at least Maple Music is available to non-Canadians, though. Imagine seeing them in an intimate venue like that? Especially in another country where the general dynamic of the crowd is different. A show like that would make for an awesome gathering. I like the idea of a bonfire at Wasaga, but a few really hardcore fans travelling south to see their "heroes" in a small venue? Amazing! :thumb:

There are probably more than a couple of you Canadian fans who've already done this. So.... what was it like? Was it truely amazing or am I waxing romantic here?

As I'm sure everyone whose made the Hip trips south will chime in and agree: It's everything you think it is, and better.

I've seen the boys with 800 people in Chicago and just over 1000 in Boston and it is fantastic seeing the band that close, that loud, and with that many diehards. EVERYBODY knows all the words, the setlists are accordingly diverse, and it's great to have the band members make eye-contact and chat with you during the shows.

Plus, the USO travelling band effect takes over, and it's very fun to find the fellow Canucks in the crowd and strike up conversations.

It's something every Hip fan should experience at least once in their lifetime.

Plus it's SO much easier to steal setlists when you can be chest-first against the stage and just reach out and grab 'em when the show is over!

Well, I suppose Canadian music not being being well-known in the States can have its advantages - and at least you can listen to Canadian radio stations over the internet. The frustration lies in not being able to easily access some of the albums by various Canadian artists, though.

Yeah, the puretracks short comings need to be addressed. The domestic only download policy doesn't help anybody.

Hi April.

Are you familiar with Maple Music? A good place to purchase Canadian stuff. While you're there, check out the Umbrella Music link.

http://www.maplemusic.com

Also, a lot of members of this board have links to various sites that have stuff besides The Hip on them. I've checked out a few and there is some interesting sites.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!

Just make sure ya don't grab 'em from Mark Vreeken's soundboard, eh Steve? Warning to all future U.S. show-goers: Don't touch Mark's stuff. It makes him angry.

I agree, let's keep the hip a secret down here. Besides, it's cool that we're a member of a small group of fans. I tend to reject everything that is extremely popular

Yeah, I figured you'd have my back if Mark wanted to go, so what the hell! All I remember is fidgeting with the clip board while you gave Mark the "I duuno, don't look at me" routine.

Yes, I'm a setlist theif, and I'd do it again...

That setlist is staring at me from the wall as I type this
