Punk Cover?
#1

Hey guys

Found something on Kazaa today that I thought I should pass along. Type in the word Pezz under audio and hope that the tracks come. What should be there is the entire "Watoosh" album that Pezz recorded in 1999 including the hidden track -- which just happens to be a punk cover of New Orleans Is Sinking.

BTW, Pezz changed their name in 2001 -- they are now known as Billy Talent -- perhaps you've heard of them

Cheers,

Pat

Yeah it sucks pretty bad. I hate punk. It kills so many good songs. I don't understand how simplifying and speeding up a song would make it sound cool. Blah.

Saw the same reference @ the HH. Should I seek the track out on the net or not? Seems as if the 1st consensus says no. I for one think its cool that The Hip have been covered. It sort of makes them an icon.

How could CanuckCourage's Calgary Flames have beaten my Mighthy(?) Red Wings? Life is not fair. CuJo played fantastic but he was out KIPPERED!

At least I can console myself with the fact that I have tickets for the Sarnia Bayfest and just reserved a cottage on Wasaga Beach for July 9-12.

I still think the best Hip cover ever is the Stereophonics' version of "Fiddler's Green". Kelly Jones' voice is perfect for that tune, and I think the band does a great job of capturing the feel and spirit of the song. Sarah Polley's version of "Courage" from the Sweet Hereafter soundtrack is pretty cool as well.

The Stereophonics cover of Fiddler's Green kicks royal ass! I would love to see Gord and Kelly do a duet version of it :thumb:

I will not give up. My face is set,my gait is fast,my goal is heaven,my road is narrow,my way is rough,my companions are few,my guide is reliable,my mission is clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, diluted or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of adversity, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity,or meander in the maze of mediocrity. I will not give up,shut up or slow down....Blessed Be!

Just downloaded both tunes.

I love the stereophonics version of fiddlers. I think gord would be proud. I really like the guy's voice.

As for Courage... not so much. It doesnt float my boat, but it is still cool to see covers out there.

Still can find the Pezz version of NOIS, but by the sounds of it I am not missing much.

I have to agree with your assesment of Sarah Polley's version of courage..its like the slightly gothic slow jazz version of it; interesting, but thats all. Off topic, check out A Thousand Trees by Stereophonic..that just rocks! :thumb:
