Lake Memphremagog (correct spelling) is a lake that is in both Vermont and in Quebec. I know this because I've been there, my ex-husband is from that area. Needless to say, I freaked the first time I heard "Problem Bears" :-)

Isn't there a folklore tale that the Lake has it's own monster named Memphry?

Along the lines of the Loch Ness montster....

Yes they have thier very own lake monster Memphy, not sure of the spelling. It's not a really big deal there though. Champy is a big deal around here but Memphy seems to never get any respect.
