It's official - the Watchmen are no more...
#1

Well, at least come the new year...they've got one last quick cross-country trek to say "goodbye"...

Taken from the band's mailer:

Dear Fans,

First of all let us thank you for your patience during this confusing time.
We are sad to say that the rumors are true, after the short tour in December
The Watchmen will be no more. This was a very difficult decision for all the
band members but in the end it was decided that it would be best for all of
us to move on to new artistic endeavors and challenges. It has been an
incredible ride. After five records, thousands of shows around the world and
countless memories, we can look back on our work with pride. Many of you
have been with us for much of this journey and it is you who we will miss
the most. We thank you for all the incredible support that you have given us
over the years. You have been the best fans an artist could ever ask for. We
hope to see you all at these last shows for a proper Rock goodbye.

Be well always,
The Watchmen

OH NO Cry Cry Cry Cry

I love the Watchmen..this really sucks. I was hoping they weren't really going to go through with this. This makes me so sad.
They are such an awesome live act, if any of you have the chance to see them for their final tour...make sure that you do.

Nice to see I wasn't the only one who was pained by this news...misery loving company, and all...

I'm definitely going to try and snag some tickets to one of the Horseshoe shows as well (although I imagine they'll sell out VERY quickly, particularly the second one)...

Like you said Lance, it's truly the end of a great run for many Canadian bands...

For me, bands like the Headstones, Big Sugar, and Watchmen represented all that was good about Can-rock (post 1990)...The fact the Hip are one of the last bands standing from that period makes me appreciate them that much more (if that's at all possible :thumb: ) .

Oh well, look on the bright side...I hear Nickelback are touring again...

I also find it really weird that these great great canuck staples in our musical blanket are stepping down Cry Hopefully bands like Sloan stick with the tour of duty.

I will not give up. My face is set,my gait is fast,my goal is heaven,my road is narrow,my way is rough,my companions are few,my guide is reliable,my mission is clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, diluted or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of adversity, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity,or meander in the maze of mediocrity. I will not give up,shut up or slow down....Blessed Be!

So the Watchmen have fulfilled the classic Canadian tradition of making sure your goodbye tour doesn't come as far east as Halifax. I like the band, but fuck 'em - they're the third Canadian band to go bust that hasn't given the Maritimes due representation on the national tour. Bye guys, hope you get reincarnated as Nova Scotians so you too can feel like chopped liver.

you know what they should do with nickelback..hire Celine Dion to remix their songs in her gracious cheesy style, maroon them on a desert island with copies! Big Grin  teach them to kill rock as we know it :rambo:

Why stop with copies? I think marooning them with the REAL Celine would be a far more fitting punishment for their "crimes"...

Just so everyone knows...tickets to the Watchmen's final two concerts at the Horseshoe went on sale today at 4:00pm via Ticketmaster...only $15 (plus $5 assorted charges) each...

I've got mine for the 27th (ie. the LAST show)...should be a great (albeit sad) night!

Cool, Jen...hope to see you there! Should be a memorable night...I'm very quietly wondering if there might be a few surprise guests in the house, what with it being a Saturday night during the holidays in T.O.? You never know who might show up at these things....:thumb:
