Private Hip Show for Hipbasers.
#16

What a fantastic idea! I'm in! What do you guys think about friends & spouses/families? Bean, I totally agree with you about the registering thing. You'll get 'em coming out of the woodwork to get a shot. We all know that WE are the ones who sit in front of our computers 12 hours before ticket sales and start refreshing and we dont stop until our finger falls off. I am so excited!

i would say we really have to keep it tight. maybe only people registered as of now (we can get the specific data from lance) and 1 guest? how does that sound? otherwise people bring their whole family, and people who are pretending to be in their family...

my $0.02....

1. we should keep this to one post instead of two. private show for hipbasers, not hipbasers unite, its getting confusing.
2. for sure, 100%, as of today, or whenever the idea came about, those registered to this site are included in the show, plus 1 guest.
3. when we approach the band/management, we have to explain what the website is all about, what are intentions are, and that the show would be a benefit for camp trillium or whatever the band wants.
4. sorry to everyone else in the world, but i don't see them doing it anywhere else but southern ontario. in the summer, outdoors at say, a campground or something like that would be idea so we can make a weekend out of it, but a small, intimate, indoor venue would be great for the winter as well.
5. we need organization, not just people posting replies, saying, "yeah, I'm in"
6. let's first find out what it's going to cost, and make other arrangements as we go.
7. man, i'm getting excited just thinking about it

Greetings all!
Great topic and secretly a variation on an idea i've harboured as a pipe dream for a long time (one of those, if i win the lottery kind of things), but good to see it being put into action.

I will offer whatever help I can, however being on the left coast i'm not sure how much i can do, although i'm sure between all of us out here we can do something. Just let me know what needs to get done and i'll work on it. I consider myself a generalist so I can do a whole shwack of different stuff.

One other point I would like to add is that of involving other groups, ie rory's killerwhaletank list, the henhouse, and a.m.t-h (even #thehip on IRC if its still around). I know that many of us belong to many, if not all of these groups and that there is some cross polination going on but I also know that many die hard fans like ourselves, who are just as dedicated and deserving, may not belong to the hipbase. Any ideas of somehow involving them with this plan?

all for now,
lates
aaron
btw even though this is going to be in SW ON, don't think for a moment that I won't be there!!!

great idea, i think contacting the management would be great but we could also c.c. the hip on the proposal to make sure that they actually hear about the gig. i know gord lives in the neighbourhood, so it wouldn't be hard to mail it off or drop it off at his place. we should definitely work around the hip's schedule for the date of the show. let them know that we're flexible.

On the topic of money.
Mats has mentioned a venue. Does the venue include security, PA, lighting etc.... Those things are usually part of the budget for such events.
If the event is going to be a fundraiser for a cause, would the HIP charge? Then it becomes profit=donation. But in that case the benefitting organization usually holds the budget for the event, making it easier for the little ones (like us fans)
I'm happy to help out with this if you're really into it,

Hi Hip fans.

I'm a lowly newcomer to your most excellent site. This is great. I'm blundering around, probably in the wrong topic, sorry for my lack of Hip protocol.

How do I change my name. I wanted Darkest One (is that taken already) I feel a connection to it, reflects my twisted sense of humour. But my Hip guru friend (who must remain anonymous because he's embarassed to be associated with a newguy, thanks Leafs C) thought it was too ..too...too trying too hard?, too newbieish. Hmm, maybe it is too obvious. If only I could recall the name of the plane that Bill Barilco went down in, hmmmn..

The private show idea is awesome. Why not? It's a win win for all. Let me know what I can do to assit. Live in Erindale Village/Mississauga area.

Fellow Hipsters,
Here is the latest...
We are currently working on what the band charges. We have a hipbaser who has connections and is VERY QUIETLY finding out what they charge and just how they operate.

Once we know what they charge, if they will actually consider it and when they might be available, we will then begin the propsal.

I also like the idea or reminder from Heron Outside, saying that most likely this show could happen before the next tour. Something similiar to what they have done in the past with small shows in the GTA area performing some new songs before they "tour". Ie. The Horseshoe, Concert Hall, Lee's Palace, London Etc.

As far as who's eligible and how many tickets, let's work on that once we know the above mentioned details.

May I also suggest that we do a mini-unite for anyone around the Toronto area or anyone else who would like to join us. We could get to know some of the Hipbasers and do a little brainstorming.?.?

Let me know if you are interested in getting together in the next couple of weeks.

Mats.

Great work so far Mats. I'm willing and able to meet with those who feel like discussing this arrangement further.

This sounds like a great plan, why not throw out that they could do an easy show minus all the bells and whistles(lights etc.) even acoustic, maybe that would lower the price and charge a 100 for the guest also. I know my wife would kill me if i didn't bring her, contact me if you need any help!!
:thumb:

My wife is in the ticket business, she could make up actual tix for this for free.

dont take this the wrong way, but i dont really want to see them acoustic. if i am paying $100+ for the opportunity to see them in this setting, i want the real deal. thats just my opinion :thumb:

Hey all again,
Here is what I would like to do.

To keep this from getting weird or out of hand I would like to form a "committee" for this project. A group of four or five of us that will have specific duties. For obvious reasons we need to have responsible, well organized people to field ideas and act upon them. I have received some input from some quality hipbasers already that I feel can provide legitimate assistance.

If you would like to get involved, please PM me and tell me what you can offer. Tell me what connections you have, people you know, experinces you have in event organizing and/or proposal writing etc.

As mentioned I have some people already but I would be looking for a couple more.

VERY IMPORTANT - Since bringing this idea forward, I have discovered that all of you seem to think this would be one of the best Hip/lifetime experiences imagineable - I totally agree, and it seems that everyone would like to help in one way or another. So please do not take anything personally over the next few weeks. I simply can't include everyone that asks to be on the committe and I can't use every idea that comes down the pipeline. With that being said, I am pretty well aware from chatting on this site who "ranks" up there in the minds of hipbasers and I will do my best to honor you all.

Like any well-run project, it takes excellent teamwork.

Also, if you are directly involved in this project or not, it will make no difference with regards to how you will experience the event. All will be treated equal and all will get the same privelages at the event that the organizers do.
Thanks for your understanding in advance.
Finally it might not be a bad idea to tone down this topic of discussion as it has been pointed out to me that this news could travel very quickly through the community of non-hipbasers and henhousers, causing a bit of a stir. Though unavoideable to a degree we can only try to be concious of the problems that may occur.
Enough said.
Cheers,
Mats.
