"Capitalism: A Love Story" - Hip reference
#1

Meh, maybe its only interesting to me, but....

Last night I was watching Michael Moore's documentary "Capitalism: A Love Story". It's fantastic by the way, I have watched it about 10 times. Anyways, I had never watched the DVD extra's before and in it was an extended interview with congressman Elijah Cummings.

During the interview while talking about changing the system, right around the 3:35 mark he seems to make a Hip reference....seems too odd to be a coincidence if you ask me!

Definately :thumb:

I will not give up. My face is set,my gait is fast,my goal is heaven,my road is narrow,my way is rough,my companions are few,my guide is reliable,my mission is clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, diluted or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of adversity, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity,or meander in the maze of mediocrity. I will not give up,shut up or slow down....Blessed Be!

This is worthy of "Hip Public Hearings", no? Smile

Excellent documentary, we saw it when it first came out and it seems so relevant within the backdrop of the "Occupy xxx..." movement.

Another good one of his is "The Big One" which was made while he was on his book tour for "Downsize This", I think it was back in around 1998 or so? The foreshadowing to the present was uncannily creepy.

I am a huge fan of Moore's work. Can his views be skewed or one sided at times , well DEFINITELY. But bottom line is its a view, and for the most part I agree with it 99.999% of the time.

I think "life's no dress rehearsal" is just a common expression (or at least simply an expression if not a common one) that Gord was using.

Just because the guy used a common expression that Gord quoted in one of his lyrics does not make this a Hip reference.

Just about everything has ben said, stated and restated in one form or another. The reference is valid if for no other reason that a hip fan recognized it and made the connection. Its actually not that important.
