Practically Hip
#1

I just came across this cover band's website and they've got some video samples...It's especially worth watching them play New Orleans and Fully Completely - the singer acts and sings eerily Gord-like.

These guys are playing Balloon Fest in London this weekend. I was curious in checking them out, but they're playing the holiday Monday at 1pm, and because I work retail(damn retail) I have to work.

No holiday for me!!!

I'm pretty sure the lead singer is a member of this board...enjoy the show whoever goes...I know that seeing tribute bands just aren't the same thing, but if you get nice and sauced and you close your eyes real tight you can almost feel Paul kicking your ass 1 song at a time.

They were supposed to play a show here at UPEI a year or two ago with a U2 tribute band (i think they were called 2U), but the concert ended up being cancelled.

If you have the chance to see any hip tribute this is the one to see...Sorry craig.
Dean(the lead singer) puts on hell of a show as well as the rest of them. Their own takes and rants are killer and have some amazing transition songs Highway Girl to bang a gong. Musically they are very tight and have 5 well rounded talent musicians (some of which are in other bands and the drummer or old drummer I believe is in a signed band).
I have seen them quite a few times. Actually hired them to play my quarter century party a few years back in Kitchener.
They mostly play in Hamilton area but do venture out. Also you can check them out every friday the 13th in dover.

DSI is definitely not the lead singer of Practically Hip. Although if he was, it would've made our trip to Europe together even more fun!

Was it his out of tune sing-a-long at Utrecht that tipped you off?

Hey no problem !! I have seen Practically myself and I like them too.
They are nice guys. They are a FULL TIME band and play every weekend.
Just so you know there are about 8 HIP TRIBUTE bands out there.
I do it for fun and a couple times a month is enough for me.
I have video on my website for you to watch courtesy of BigA!!
Go to my MEDIA page.
Check out Mr. Lahey's amazing GORDIE rant !

BigA has video of 3 shows we did in SURREY, BC and I tell some cool stories as well.
BigA has them if you want them.

BTW, and not that it matters,
I've been told by many that I sound closer to GORDIE than anyone (including DEAN)... check out BOOTS and NOIS with Lahey.
If in your opinion I suck, no need to worry ...
I won't lose any sleep over it.

I'm sure you don't sound like Gordie, just like all the other guys that try to sound like Gordie and don't even come close. I respect the fact that you can get up on the stage and play music and sing, but why don't you try and create some music of your own rather than try to be a carbon copy of a band that is nearly immpossible to do carbon copies of.
