Atmospheric and trancey totally makes sense to me now. I hope the whole album has this feel.

Call me underwhelmed by the single...I found it a bit boring on my first listen. Hopefully it will grow on me, but if the rest of the album is produced like that I'll be disappointed. Since when was Johnny Fay replaced by a drum machine!?! I'm really tired of the whole Pro-Tools/drum trigger/replacement that is so prevalent in music these days. I found the song lacking a lot of energy, mostly because the drums were so boring and monotonous. Fay is by no means the "best" drummer out there, but he pounds the crap out his kit and has always had a big hand (pun intended) in the Hip's sound. I feel as though that's lost on "Human Mind". I really wish they would record again with Adam Kasper; IBE is perhaps the best sounding album they've ever done, imho. I get the whole drum thing for pop music, but this is RAWK, and it shouldn't be programmed to "perfection".

On another note, why do I have to wait until June for the album? It's been 4 years since the last one, they easily could have put it out sooner.... :nooooo

Johnny isn't playing a hi-hat on this song, which is probably why it sounds a bit different. Also his snare drum seems to have more of a stripped down sound than on previous albums. If you listen closely, you can actually hear the snare rattle a bit. That's not a drum machine you're hearing. Those are definitely live physical drums. Especially when you hear the bass drum and the way he rides the crash cymbal on the chorus-ey parts.

I'll listen to it again, but the snare drum sound is certainly triggered. There will be some of the "original" drum hit in there as well but the sound is way too consistent to be simply the "live" recording of Johnny. It's been triggered and sampled so you get exactly the same "hit" for each beat. Unfortunately this is standard operating procedure for recording these days (and has been for years now), but to me, it just really stands out on this song in a bad way. I wouldn't say the drums sound stripped down at all, at least production wise (yes, the arrangement of the drums is stripped down); the snare especially sounds heavily processed and there are definitely artifacts from the processing/triggering and I'm not fond of that sound at all.

A little disappointed it's not an album drop but will take what I can get. First listen to the single I was thinking - that's not bad. Second was better and third was really digging it. For me, that's usually a good sign as I find it takes a while for really good music to grow on me while generic stuff can hook you quickly but that's it.

Will order the vinyl and wait anxiously for June. In the meantime, back to the single.

woke up to a fantastic email. plugged my phone in the car and listened 5 times on my way to work. the first 2 listens had me iffy. but now i'm digging it. when i pulled into the lot to watch the video, i realized i already had one lyric wrong...lol. I though gord was saying "you should've unseen the look on your face". I like my version better. the song definitely reminds me of World Container era. i keep hearing a hip song from that time that i can't put my finger on.
it's amazing how great his voice can still be in the studio.

as for the june delay...i wonder if it has something to do with vinyl pressings being backed up due to overwhelming demand.

i'm still stoked regardless :jump

Only The Hip could've stomped on this like they did. Great song buried by lowering our expectations, again

I hear a lot of "Escape is at Hand" in the single - especially in the instrumental outro

Was hoping for more

On the 1st listen, I found myself looking more at what was going on in the video and not really listening to the song. On the 2nd listen, I turned the video off and just enjoyed the music, by the 3rd listen, I was hooked. Great song!
