We Are The Same Discussion

Morning Moon is a "nice" song. It is very good. Mellow but moves along great. But as an album opener. Not sure. I'll have to wait for the rest of the album to see how it fits in. I always thought Are You Ready (IVL) was a horrible album opener (and really a bad song in general) but sound wise MM it's very well produced. Looking forward to the release.
I know that we're supposed to be talking about the new album but are you fucking kidding me? "Are You Ready" is one of the Hip's best songs and is a perfect album opener, you insane person.

I also like 'Are You Ready' and think that it's a quality song.

direwolf74 Wrote:Just listened to Morning Moon for the first time. Wow, what a beautiful song! I love the idea of starting the album off with an acoustic track, which is something they've never done before. Great song. Gorgeous lyrics. Gord's voice sounds fantastic and the production is absolutely perfect. It sounds a bit more raw than the last album. World Container had much more of that Bob Rock polish/sheen to it. This track sounds like it was done pretty much live-off-the-floor, which is a very good sign. I had a feeling that if they got Bob into the Bathouse to produce this record, he'd be inspired by the rustic nature of the studio and record the band accordingly. Thumbs up!

I do like the song, but it would be better if it was more raw and less polished. For one, the background vocals sound about as unnatural as humanly possible, IMO.

I really like the background vocals. You can definitely tell they've layered a bunch of vocal tracks over top of one another, but I think it works perfectly and adds to the whole mood/feel of the song. Also I'm pretty sure I can hear a female voice in there. Sarah Harmer maybe? Kathleen Edwards?? I guess I'll have to wait until I get my hands on the liner notes to find out for sure.

What gave you that impression?

For starters you can literally hear the "air" or "buzz" in the studio during the acoustic guitar intro, which I love. Or maybe it's just tape hiss. Whatever it is, I like it. Robby's lead guitar and the background vocals were definitely overdubbed, but overall the song just gives off that cool campfire vibe of a band playing together, specifically the drums, bass, and rhythm guitar. That's just how I hear it. It's definitely less polished than anything off World Container, that's for sure.

Could also be Julie Doiron or Kate Fenner...

Hey MAv....did you shoot the cover? I could see that being a shot you took one night after a long day in the studio....

Yeah, I had the same reaction. Kind of sounds like the Great Lake Swimmers too and my guess is that GLS will tour with them...They'll be releasing their new album around that time, and so far 'Pulling on a Line' and 'She comes to me in Dreams' fits nicely with MM...maybe after GLS' European tour...
