I hadn't heard of this twist in the battle:

Then a janitor at the school waded in on the battle and demanded the prize should be awarded to him as he had bought the coffee and thrown away the cup.

No offense to anyone in that profession, (which means that someone in that profession will surely take offense), but how fitting that it was a janitor who wasn't astute enough to ensure that he wasn't throwing away a grand prize-winning cup.

I'm shocked that the janitor's lawyer didn't try to sue Tim Hortons for serving exceptionally delicious coffee that day, distracting the janitor from rolling up the rim, unfairly negating his chance to win.

In Canada we are not as prone to get those lawsuits here because in Canada the losing side has to pay the other side's costs.

However, it does still happen but not nearly at the rate the US does.

I thought it was hilarious that the janitor and his lawyer offered to submit to DNA analysis to prove that the cup was his. I can imagine the contortions the lawyer would have gladly undertaken had no direct DNA evidence shown up.

Defense Lawyer : So even though there are no direct matches with my client's saliva to DNA left on the cup in question, there still is the possibility his saliva was present in the cup at the time of digestion, therefore you must award the car to my client. Who will then sell it to pay my bill. Have a nice day!
