Makes sense. Where'd you hear/see that?
It was in the Alan Cross interview videos.

:what Outrageously expensive tickets. Is that a joke? Are The Hip coming on after Gord and TCOM? For that price, i should hope so. Confusedhock:

I think that is including all taxes if that makes anyone feel better...For me anyway I don't find it that bad to see my favorite band or artist especially in an intimate venue like that. I have been to U2 and other big name bands and you pay over $100 to be on the roof. I know you are saying well they are not as popular and that is why they are in this price range but who the hell can you see for much cheaper than this and you can still be sitting in the front row :roll:

want to be a nobody without peer
want to be a thought that's never done
want to shake your faith in human nature
want to break the hearts of everyone
want to be your wheezing screen door
want to be your stars of Algonquin
want to be your roaring floorboard
want to break the hearts of everyone

I agree. That price is ridiculous. Gord and the Country of Miracles are essentially an indie band and not very well known outside of Hip fans, therefore they should be charging "indie-band" prices in my opinion. I think somewhere in the $20 - $30 range would be fair. Hell, I'd even pay $40. But $70? Outrageous indeed.

Wilco only charged $40 when I saw them here in Calgary, and that was 2nd row centre. The Hold Steady was $25. Just to name a couple. And those bands are infinitely more popular and well-known than Gord's solo band. I suppose he can get away with charging that much for tickets just because he's Gord Downie, lead singer of The Tragically Hip. It seems like you're paying more for his name and reputation than for the actual music.

I think the Oakville gig is priced the way it is because it is in the TO metro area. There are more people who are fans of the Hip, plus it is a 485 seat auditorium. I would expect prices to be higher in the TO area because there are more people who are fans of Gord and the Hip, thus more of a demand. I would be highly surprised and upset if they charged higher prices outside of the TO area, depending on the venue, because Gord and TCOM most likely will not sell out 5-10,000 seat venues by themselves. Besides, these days touring and selling merchandise at shows is what provides most mainstream and indie acts their living, not CDs. I would be surprised if The Grand Bounce, as awesome as it is, sells more than 150K records in Canada/US.

150,000?
"WATS" was certified at 80,000 sold: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://cria.ca/gold/0509_g.php">http://cria.ca/gold/0509_g.php</a><!-- m -->
"Hipeponymous" @ 100,000; "Yer Favourites" @ 200,000. And I can't find any certification history for Downie's previous solo efforts... which suggests they never broke the 50,000 mark as that's where the certification starts.

I think that $70 is too much - I like the album, I'm a fan, and Oakville place is less than 30 minutes from my home, but I'm not buying tickets. I'll hold out for a cheaper festival, or club show.

Hmm, did you buy that U2 ticket second hand? U2 usually have exceptionally reasonable ticket prices. When I saw them in 06 I payed 49$ and ended up second row centre.

Anyways, I personally wouldn't pay over 30, MAYBE 40$ to see Gord Downie and TCOM. I just don't have the same interest in it as seeing the Hip full band, which I would pay up to 80$ to see.

I believe and correct me if I am wrong Niagara-on-the-Lake is $61.00 and I can't miss that one it is 15 minutes away and its wine country :thumb:

Yeesh, I wasn't aware that WATS sold so little. Speaking for myself, I probably wouldn't spend that kind of money for a Gord and TCOM gig, the Hip yes but not a solo show. If I still lived in the area, I'd go to Hamilton or either of the Niagara Falls shows. C'mon Gord, make it to the Burlington, VT area!! :lol: Tongue

150K? Did the last two Hip records each even sell that much? For some reason, I'm thinking that if it sold 50K, it would be considered a success. What did CMG and BOTN sell? I'm too lazy to look it up. :lol:

Another date revealed!

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.rifflandia.com/">http://www.rifflandia.com/</a><!-- m -->

Well, the actual date is unknown, but sometime on the Sep 23-26 weekend Gord Downie will be playing at Rifflandia Festival in Victoria, BC :thumb:

The price for this one is 65$ for the ENTIRE WEEKEND, including countless other bands. I'd say it's worth it.
