When I first heard No Threat, I really didn't like it. But with many repeated listens it's grown on me. This one I liked from the first listen.
I'm a big fan of Jazz and I know that most jazz players hate making records and would rather be in front of an audience. I don't love the Hip because of their albums but because of their shows.
I'll reserve judgement on the album until I've seen them do most of it in concert. But I like this tune.

After a handful of listens I am still not sure with this track. The keyboards just don't do it for me. I agree that its good to see somthing completely fresh from the boys, but this isn't necessarily the type of fresh that I was looking for. Some have said above that they think it will be a good radio track, but i disagree with that one; if some of us hardcores are having so much trouble with it, I think the casual listener will tune it out. In my opinion, The Dropoff has much better single potential.
Anyway, still looking forward to the album, and I will def. listen to this track another 40 times int he next week haha.

I don't know what to think of the song yet. I've only listened to it the once, but i dunno, i didn't care for it all that much. Not a bad tune, but not that impressed with it either.

well, before IVL was released, thehip.com had a IAGLIYDW teaser up. The 30 seconds or so gave me so much hope for the rest of the disc. Turns out, at least in my opinion, it was by far the best written and produced tune on a disappointing disc.
I'm hoping that they've done the reverse this time. I can't imagine it getting worse than In View.

just browsed their site and found this song. just listened to this for the first time and i really like it. i think the keyboard/xylophone fits and i really hope they reproduce that on stage. its a bit different and different is good. i am looking forward to this album even more now. i really like the lyrics aswell. this will be a welcome addition to radio stations and hopefully bumps some of the shit (read emo, nickelback, etc) off the playlist.

Almost everything works for me with the new single... its just an up-beat, mid-tempo rocker. But, my god, those keyboards maybe should not have been part of that song... the first half of that song sounds like a damn carnival or something.
I'm sure it'll grow on me, but I can't stop picturing a merri-go-round when I listen to that song.

This seems familiar, huge fans of a band not liking something produced by Bob Rock. cough Metallica cough. Having said that I still love the song and am anxiously awaiting the upcoming album. and the only way I would ever see myself not buying a Hip album ever is if somehow the Hip start playing death metal or something rediculous like that.

My wife says: "Reminds me of Amanda Gibson (she meant Debbie Gibson) or Tiffany. 80s pop. Very repetitive. Usually their lyrics are more political or motivated. [My interjection: Or impenetrable]."
after repeated listens: it's basically a stupid love song that has me bopping along. Still scratching my head.
whoever mentioned "Are You Ready" ... right on in terms of the lyrics.
When people were talking about the new single kicking ass earlier this week, I was thinking more along the lines of "No Threat", which kicked my ass repeatedly. This isn't so much "ass kicking" as it is "butts-wiggling".

I'm on listen #3. I'm not a huge fan right now, but like all hip songs, I know it'll grow on me. I'm not sure if I "get" the phone rings lyric, but maybe I will once I see the album booklet and read the full lyrics. Also, the sound is kind of 80's-retro to me, but that may also be because of my computer speakers. :oops: Still...I'm definitely looking forward to hearing the rest of the album.

After hearing the new songs that they have been playing live I was totally shocked hearing this for the first time. It definitely wasn't what I expected. Having said that, I love the fact that with each new record the hip are always moving forward stylistically and trying new things. A lot of bands get stuck recording the same album over and over but not these guys. They always manage to keep their signature sound while venturing into new territories.
They are certainly pushing things with the keyboards and all, but I have to say I like it and with each listen I get deeper and deeper inside the song... as with all hip tunes. I love the production on this song and I'm absolutely pumped to hear the rest of the record.
These guys are the most original, creative, intelligent, rocking band in the world…. Period.
