Two incredible CDs, they don't so much "kick your ass", as much as "slowly drown you in a pool of... i dunno... something passionately poetic". Highly recommeded listening experience from start to end:
1. Catherine Wheel's "Adam & Eve"
2. The National's "Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers"
Really anxious to hear The National's new one, "Alligator". Not yet in Canada though.

Alrighty, so I just spent the last couple of hours lying on the couch in front of my stereo listening to tunes, and I felt it was time to resurrect this thread. Just 'cause I love talkin' music with like-minded music freaks like yourselves. So here are the albums that are currently kicking my ass:
1. Neko Case- Fox Confessor Brings the Flood
Best thing she's ever done. Her songwriting has matured to the point where she's an absolute master at her craft now. Not to mention she still has the greatest pipes in indie-rock. Neko can sing me to sleep anytime she wants.
2. Tom Waits- Rain Dogs
It's been a long time since I've listened to this album, and I almost forgot how f**king genius it is. "It's 9th and Hennepin, and all the donuts have names that sound like prostitutes." Great stuff!
3. Joel Plaskett- La De Da
I'm tellin' ya, this dude is a national treasure. One of the best albums to come out of Canada in recent years. "Natural Disaster" is by far one of the coolest songs ever written by anybody. There, I said it.
4. Skydiggers/Cash Brothers- self titled
Peter Cash, Andrew Cash, Josh Finlayson, and Andy Maize singing harmonies together. 'Nuff said.
5. Drive-By Truckers- The Dirty South
When I first bought this album back in '04 I listened to it like crazy for about five straight months, and then I took a break from it for a while. But once I heard the news that the Truckers were putting out a new record this April, I pulled The Dirty South off my shelf again, and it's now been in constant rotation for three solid weeks. Personally I think these guys are right up there with Wilco and Pearl Jam as one of the best current rock bands in America. I own three of their albums, and there isn't a single dud on any of 'em.

1) The Headstones - Teeth and Tissue
Absolutly kickass driving music. Unsound might be the catchiest song ever written.
2) Joel Plaskett - La De Da
This is such an amazing album. There's really not much I can say that you guys haven't already said. It took me forever to get this CD, since the girl at HMV accidentally ordered me the record instead of the CD. I don't have a record player.
3) REM - Around the Sun
After all these years REM still makes some of the best music out there. It took a while for me to get into this one, but once I did, it stuck. Boy in the Well is simply brilliant songwriting.
4) Clutch - Robot Hive
You have to see this band live before you die. Probably the best concert I've ever seen.
5) The Hip - Live series
No explanation needed.

Magic Numbers - Magic Numbers
They do a live cover of Crazy in Love by Beyonce and Jay Z. Sounds odd I know but it is real good.
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
I put this album in the category as the Arcade Fire. It is brilliant. Listen to Country Yellow Teeth if you want a song to start with.
Neko Case - Fox Confessor
I have to see her live again. She is amazing.
