And saying things like its better than PP..or Hen House...dear god..

Don't know if I'd go as far as M@W better than PP... but I'd definitely put it above TATH...
But that's just me.

It is somewhat pointless and simply inappropriate to say that any of the Hip's albums are poor, but it is completely acceptable to say that you like one more than another...I, for instance, do not necessarily enjoy M@W, other than the title track and Lake fever, nor do I necessarily enjoy TATH all that much. While IVL happens to contain several songs that I really really love...the cresciendo being The Dire Wolf, which places highly in my all-time top 5.
As others have mentioned, I simply can't get through M@W or TATH without having to skip some songs...in my mind there are some real duds in there...IVL has weak songs but I can get through it all, AND I can sing along with each and every track....happily. But I must preface this by saying that IVL was released at a time in my life when The Hip began to really take ahold of me and turn me into the rabid fan that I am now, so it does hold a skewed place in my heart.
So to answer the original question of this thread....Dire Wolf, should live on forever in The Tragically Hip's catalogue.

well i like most people would be hard pressed to choose 1 song, dire wolf after unplucked gems was beautiful during the ivl tour, throwing off glass sounded great when i finally heard a live version from chicago, dark canuck is probably my fav on the album, mainly for the timing change, i just love that stuff
i'll close my eyes and point to one

in response to mr robert goulet i can understand what you're saying, i used to feel the same about m@w but whenever i through it in the cd player now i'm always plestently surprised at how great the songs are especially after the middle of the album, i used to think that there wasn't anything good at the end of that disc, i'm not sure why but for some reason i did. than one day i popped it in the car and was like, oh yeah! all these songs are great too
anyway most times i hear a new album, not just the hip, i find that there may be parts i don't like as much but when i keep listening to them they grow on me fast, i bought ibe while on vacation in bc with a friend and i was listening to it on the way home (i highly recomend everyone drive across this country at least once) and i didn't know what to think but it didn't take long to grab me

Interesting point by Goulet. I love TATH. Buuuut, that's because it was that album that really started to draw me to the Hip. I was 13, and LBU had just come out. You heard ABAC or Gift Shop or 700 on the radio every 5 minutes. We played Gift and ABAC at all our school dances. It was beautiful. Brings me back to the good old days. BTW, my very first slow dance was to ABAC, so the song has a certain sentimental value - although I don't even remember who I was dancing with!!!

I pickede Are You Ready, but only Throwing Off Glass got less votes!! I thought this song rocked and I am AMAZED only ONE other person out of 130 who voted thinks it's the best live song on the album. A killer no-nonsense, down-to-business punchy rocker that eats, shoots & leaves in less than three minutes. I only got to hear it live twice on the IVL tour and I wish they played it every show.

I never liked Glass, a little boring for me, but I used to really like IVL and now I'm kinda sick of it. The songs didn't stand the test of time for me. But I have a few bootlegs from the IVL tour with Are You Ready and it never gets old for me. I'm not saying it's absolutely the best song on the album from an artistic point of view, that would probably be Dire Wolf or Darkest Canuck, but this poll asks which song could SURVIVE, which means being played live...and I would rather hear Are You Ready slamming the encore of any show into fifth gear than either of the aforementioned songs.
I think aforementioned was the longest word I've ever used in a post. :lol:

The Darkest One! c'mon, not only is it the most deserving to survive, but it is THE best song on the album :mrgreen:.
