Last song played on this tour in Kingston

Escape is at Hand for the Travellin' Man would be especially poignant, as would Toronto #4.

Just watched a couple of songs from the Ft. York show, where they ended with We'll Go Too. That would be an cool final song.

Had the iPod on shuffle yesterday and up popped "Last American Exit". I know the odds are way, way, WAY against it, but that would be a great (and fitting) closing song to what may possibly be the final show. Kind of a full circle to where it basically all started for them.

Maybe not the last song, but during the encore it'd be cool to see them play Family Band...and have their families join them on stage. That'd be a shade shy of true wickedness...and totally awesome.

I like this idea :thumb:

I'll be very surprised if they mention Gord's illness at all, implied or otherwise. My bet is they will play shows as they always have, with no guests or anything that smacks of any type of farewell.

I agree with you. And that's why I think "Fire in the Hole" would be a perfect closer. No sentimentality needed. Let them end it with a rocker. Let Gord and the boys 'use it all up'.

You guys are right. IF there is a 'sentimental farewell' moment - and it's a big 'if' - I continue to think it'll come towards the end of the set, but not at the very end.

You have to look at it from the band's perspective. Two things: first, it will almost certainly be a challenge for everyone involved to keep it together if they allow themselves to think about the bigger picture too much. What I would do in their shoes is just dig in, focus on playing the songs, period. Otherwise it could become overwhelming. If I'm Gord, even if 'Century' or some other obvious 'farewell' song is on the set-list, I don't sing it with that it mind, I just try to do the song justice as a song.

The other thing is, at the end of the day, they're entertainers: leave 'em wantin' more. Close out with epic, famous, signature rockers. Blow the roof off. It will be 'Blow' or NOIS, almost certainly.

No one but the press ever called it a "farewell tour", or a "goodbye tour". My motivation for seeing the band is not to say goodbye, but to say thankyou (& some message with the word love in it), & I wonder if that's sorta how the band is approaching this too. I think their focus may be more celebration & connection, rather than saying goodbye. My guess for the final song will be the lovesong to Kingston: "they shot a movie once in my hometown, everybody was in it from miles around...."

My longshot/dark horse vote is Use it Up.

An epic Blow at High Dough (which whenever I've seen it live, they seem to enjoy playing more than NOIS) to end the tour, in Kingston with the CBC cameras rolling and everybody from miles around the country involved in it ... yeah, that seems just about right!

I've been thinking about this since this thread first came up and I think Blow at high dough makes a hell of a lot of sense.
I'd be on board with that being the last song they ever played, if it (god forbid) comes to that.

YOUR WHOLE COMMENT, LOL!!! Smile
The great thing is, they're likely to play it at some point during the evening no matter what. But as a final song?!! I can picture it in my mind & the energy when those first notes on the guitar arrive, & we realize our destination...there'll be enough energy in that building to achieve lift off!

They could play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and I wouldn't care. Just want to be there!

This will be spot on. The press conference with the doctors will be the only mention of Gord's illness. I doubt the band will do much media(radio interviews) during the tour as well.

Last song I think would probably end up being Blow. I don't think they will mix the setlist up too much on this tour like NFPA. Blow has been used to close many of shows, so I think they will use it to close the show out. I don't think the band will treat this show any different than any other show.

It would be cool, if they closed it with Verge or Fire, or Heart
