Thread is heating up – playoffs must be closing in... :jump

Closing in and squeezing out the habs thanks to the genius of Bob Gainey. I'm glad Halak's head is screwed up now from sitting on the bench when he clearly deserved to play. Now they can play Denis? Or jump back to Price.. this is what Gainey wanted after all. Play Halak when he's doomed to fail so you can justify going back to Price. I don't even care if they make the playoffs anymore, they need to get rid of a lot of dead weight in the off season or it's gonna be a shitty next couple of years.

I can't imagine how tough it was for you to utter those words.

It wasn't easy. I threw up in my mouth a little bit.

Can't say that I've seen this happen before:

Unless you are a Canucks fan, that is hillarious.

LOL, awesome. That just made my day. Oh, and thank you Phoenix!

Anyone think Ovechkin overdid it or was it all good?

The guy got his 50th goal and it wasnt all that bad, he just pretended his stick was too hot to pick up..meh. Ive seen worse, was it rob ray who rode his stick in buffalo, or what about Fleury sliding all over the ice like a fool in the playoffs against Edmonton?

Getting at least 50 goals three years in a row, he should be allowed to celebrate, I dont think he went too far with this one. I still think his enthusiasm will carry this team far, its infectious. If they had a real goalie Id call them a Cup contender, though they're not far off.

He looked like an idiot. If he was trying to be funny, he definitely made me laugh, but I was laughing at him, not with him. I don't have a problem with celebrating a goal, but there's no place in hockey for choreographed shit like that :rambo:

Montreal is up for sale! I'll tell you, I think fans might burn the Bell Centre down if Rene Angelil buys the team...

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=272372

The Montreal Canadiens could be going up for sale, reports La Presse in Montreal.

The newspaper, citing Canadiens president Pierre Boivin, reported on Monday owner George Gillett is considering options for many of his assets, including the legendary franchise.

"We're not hiding it; we're going through a very difficult economic period," Boivin told La Presse.

"The Gillett family has retained the services of financial advisers to assess various strategic alternatives to optimize the value of its corporate assets," said Boivin in a statement on Monday. "In Canada, the family has retained the services of BMO Capital Markets and the process is underway."

Boivin drew a crowd of reporters at a downtown hotel Monday, however he did not give them any substantial information.

"Today, many of you would have liked I would talk to you about the performance of the team or the news of the day in regards to the financial measures taken by our owner," Boivin said.

"But you will understand that I will abstain as it's not the time."

Forbes Magazine ranked the Canadiens as the NHL's third most valuable team back in October. The magazine estimated the club's worth to be $334 million.

There were reports the club would be placed up for sale late last year, but Gillett and the Canadiens denied their accuracy.

Gillett purchased the Canadiens and the Bell Centre back in 2001 for $181 million. He also co-owns Liverpool soccer club along with interests in the Richard Petty Motorsports NASCAR team and Gillett Entertainment Group.

The CANADIAN PRESS is reporting that Research In Motion CEO Jim Balsillie is among the names being rumoured as the team's next owner. Others include billionaire Cirque du soleil owner Guy Laliberte, media giant Quebecor and Rene Angelil, manager and husband of singer Celine Dion.

The team does not expect the rumour of a potential sale to effect the team on the ice.

"I've heard vague rumours about what's happening," head coach and general manager Bob Gainey told reporters.

"I didn't hear that the hockey team was being sold. Have you? No. So it doesn't change.

"We're in March. Our budget's been set, our money's spent.....We have hockey games to play and it's about the competition."

The Canadiens are celebrating their 100th Season, but things have not gone as hoped for the storied orgaization. The team is in danger of missing the playoffs as they sit in eighth place in the Eastern Conference, one point up on the Florida Panthers in ninth.

A steady stream of off-ice issues and on-ice struggles have hurt the Canadiens this season. General manager Bob Gainey fired head coach Guy Carbonneau earlier this month, but the club's fortunes have not changed. The Canadiens have only one win under Gainey over the six games he has been behind the benc

 I guess you're breathing a little easier now, seeing as how the Canucks humiliated themselves on Saturday night.

There were occasions in the past that I wondered if that's ever happened. Now I know!

Ryan O'Byrne did the same thing this year..

The most infamous one was Steve Smith of the Oilers in 1986 ... game 7 against Calgary, 2-2 in the third. He eliminated his own team from the playoffs.

I remember watching that one ... it was jaw-dropping, seeing it happen, and his reaction.

I wouldnt mind if Balsilly buys the team, hes got deeep pockets and seems to be a huge hockey fan. His big problem was wanting to move teams, but I can say for sure this team aint going anywhere, so bring your bags of money to Montreal Jim, Im on board, as long as he doesnt mess around with the franchise's history and legacy.

and im not even going to talk about the Habs right now, it would all be out of frustration and deep rage..and that wont be good for anyone.

i cant wait for summer and he can let half the no-heart floaters walk the plank and open some huge cap space, just do it RIGHT THIS TIME!!!!!!!!

ok there i go again........im done..

Gretzky did a classy thing the next season & let Smith carry the Cup first when they won it all.

There's plenty of good things about the NHL. Besides if you think it's so shitty, why do you waste so much of your time watching it?

I meant specifically on a delayed penalty. Being from (near) Edmonton, I remember that one well, albeit not as well as the OTHER Smith's. I'm not going to get over that one until probably ever.
