What a let down that Rangers/Devils game was last night! After trailing 5-1 late in the 2nd period, the Rangers battled all the way back to tie it up at 5's. Just 11 seconds after Ryan Callahan scored the tying goal though, the Devils scored again to go back up 6-5...and added two more for an 8-5 win. I don't know what to make of the Rangers really, their PP has been horrific all season long, and they are getting virtually no secondary scoring after the Naslund-Gomez-Zherdev line. Dubinsky & Voros both had great starts, but haven't contributed much offensively since October. Chris Drury had a strong stretch in November (something like 9 goals in 9 games), but that's it.
Henrik Lundqvist has definitely been the teams MVP thus far...but he hasn't been the same since the Vancouver game. Hopefully they can bounce back tonight against Carolina...i wouldn't be surprised if Valiquette gets the start. He was strong Thursday night against Atlanta.

DALLAS -- Sean Avery's days with the Dallas Stars are over

Although the combative forward was eligible to return from a six-game suspension Sunday, the Stars instead announced Avery will not rejoin the team -- ever.

"All parties said there is a clear understanding that a return to the Stars is not in the best interest of either the hockey club or Avery," the team said in a news release.

Details of his departure still must be worked out. He could be traded, sent to the minors or bought out next summer. The club said it will work with Avery to try making this an amicable divorce.

However, there's no telling when Avery will even be ready to play again. He is at an undisclosed location seeking treatment through a program set up by the NHL players association. When he was suspended, Avery told the Stars he needed help dealing with anger issues.

"Sean needs to focus on his own well-being while the Stars hockey team must focus on playing hockey and competing for a playoff spot," Stars co-general manager Brett Hull said in the statement. "We all need to move forward."

Avery lasted only 23 games in Dallas after being signed for $15.5 million and four years over the summer. The Stars could try voiding the contract by saying he violated a conduct clause, but aren't going to do that, in part because of the likely legal challenges that would ensue.

"The message here is: no distractions," Hull said. "Sean can focus on resolving his personal issues, and the Stars will have closure on this episode.".........

It looks like Mats Sundin might FINALLY be going to make a decision by Friday! Most sources have it down to the Rangers & Canucks. I wasn't sure at the start of the season if i wanted Mats in a blueshirt or not...but it's become very apparent that they need help offensively, especially on the PP. Hopefully if Mats picks the Rangers, opefully he'd help do just that. They'd have to make a few moves roster wise to accomodate his salary though. I really like Petr Prucha, he's talented & works his ass off every shift, but as long as Tom Renney is coach of the Rangers, Prucha isn't going to be given a chance. He'd more than likely be one of the cuts, whether it's a stint in the minors, or a trade.

Sundin is a Canuck. I have to say, i'm a little disappointed he isn't on his way to NY. If adding Sundin meant just letting players like Petr Prucha, Dan Fritsch, etc go, then i would of liked nothing better to add Mats to the mix. However, if it meant having to trade away a core player such as Michael Rozsival, or Scott Gomez as they speculated on NHL Live! this afternoon, well then i'm not all that disappointed he ended up in Vancouer.

I du know... I heard that they wouldn't fire MacTavish, but "re-post" him in the organization. Lowe & him are pretty tight. Quinn would be a good fit. More of a players coach, and a different chance of pace for the team. Maybe they need that.
