NHL releases ticket info for NHL Winter Classic 2009

Monday, 11.03.2008 / 3:16 PM / News NHL.com

NEW YORK/CHICAGO – The National Hockey League (NHL) and the Chicago Blackhawks today jointly announced ticket information for NHL Winter ClassicTM 2009. Similar to last year's inaugural NHL Winter Classic in Buffalo, the event's home team season ticketholder base (Chicago Blackhawks) as well as NHL Winter Classic partners will have the right to purchase tickets for the event during the initial on-sale phase.

A general public random drawing will be held to determine who will have an opportunity to purchase the remaining tickets with a limited number of tickets set aside for the community ticket initiative described below. Fan registration for the random drawing will be conducted through the Chicago Blackhawks' official website (www.chicagoblackhawks.com) beginning on or about Noon ET/11 a.m. CT, Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, through on or about 11:59 a.m. ET/10:59 a.m. CT, Friday, Nov. 28, 2008. Registrations received after the deadline will not be accepted. There is no fee to register. Limit one entry per person. Each registrant selected will have an opportunity to purchase a limited number of tickets.

To celebrate amateur hockey in Illinois, a community ticket initiative will be conducted in the form of a youth hockey drawing for an opportunity to purchase NHL Winter Classic 2009 tickets. In conjunction with the Blackhawks and the Amateur Hockey Association of Illinois (AHAI), the NHL will make available a limited number of tickets along the baselines to AHAI members only. To be eligible for the youth hockey drawing, AHAI members must register at www.ahai.org or www.chicagoblackhawks.com between Noon ET/11 a.m. CT, Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, through on or about 11:59 a.m. ET/10:59 a.m. CT, Friday, Nov. 28, 2008.

A USA Hockey membership number active as of Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008, will be required for registration purposes. If selected, the AHAI member will be allowed to purchase two tickets. One ticketholder must be 18 years of age or under and accompanied by an adult. There will be no exceptions and registrations that are incomplete or not meeting these eligibility requirements will not be processed. There is no fee to register. Limit one entry per AHAI member.

The Blackhawks will host the Detroit Red Wings at Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs, in NHL Winter Classic 2009 on New Year's Day. The 701st all-time meeting of the clubs – no NHL opponents have played more regular-season games against each other – will begin at the memorably unique venue at 1 p.m. ET/Noon CT. NBC will provide live broadcast coverage of the game in the U.S. In Canada, CBC and RDS will televise the event live. NHL Radio will provide coverage for radio stations across North America, and NHL Network and NHL.com will provide extensive coverage around the event.

Ugh...what a pathetic and embarrassing effort by the Flames last night. You know you're playing badly when a crap team like Phoenix comes in and beats you in your own barn. I should've just stayed home and watched election coverage.

God, the Oilers suck SO HARD. It's frustrating, because the team looks pretty good on paper. Argh.

New goalie? New coach? New everything? I don't even know what would help anymore!

For one, I don't think they should be playing firewagon hockey anymore. The '80s are over.

I think that players have to be held acountable on both ends of the ice. Penner is a bust so far, and Pisani is invisible. The only forward who has really stepped up their game is Hemsky.

Staios has to be tougher in front of the net and Vishnovsky has to stop having as many turnovers as a french bakery. Maybe it's time MacTavish calls out some of his vets.

i think mactavish `s free pass for going to the finals a few years ago should have expired some time ago

What's with the amazing debut for Dallas Stars' players recently??? It started with Brad Richards first game after last seasons deadline deal in which he had 5 assists. This season, after being a healthy scratch the first few games of the season, Fabbian Brunnstrom scored 3 goals in his debute....and then last night Mark Parrish scores 3 goals in his first game with the Stars!!

I sure am glad I have Luongo in my fantasy league. After an inconsistent start he's on fire with three straight shutouts - and five total on the season already. If he keeps this up the Canucks might actually have a shot at the playoffs...

Tomorrow night's game should be a good one. Leafs are playing well under Ron Wilson and the Flames need to have a solid game so they can get themselves out of this mini-slump that they're in. The 'Dome is gonna be rockin!

GO FLAMES!!!

direwolf74 Wrote:Fantastic game tonight! What really made it fun to watch was that the officials put their whistles away for the most part and allowed both teams to play some exciting, end-to-end hockey. It was incredibly refreshing. My Flames have finally found their game and are currently riding a 4-game winning streak. We're getting goals from all over the place, the defence has been much better, and Kipper is starting to look like his old self again. Things are definitely looking up in Cowtown.

Looks like Kipper just needed some time.

I watched the Nucks/Bruins game last night. It was atrociously boring, but I was very pleased with the officiating. The players are 100% at fault for making it boring. The officials get an A+ rating from me. After the game, Gary Valk whined about the Bruins not getting called for enough penalties. Valk needs to STFU. It's guys like Valk that are trying to completely ruin the game. :nooooo

It's quite simple:

MORE PENALTIES = BAD
LESS PENALTIES = GOOD

Most of the penalties called, like you said, are shitty ticky tack calls. I'm sure that Habs fans and Red Wings fans love it when their theam gets powerplay after powerplay because they are so weak on their skates, but it's bad for hockey.

So do you think they should go back to the pre-lockout days when clutching and grabbing were all the rage? Cause that was exciting hockey . Enforcing the rules gives the skilled players more opportunities to display their skill, which is where most of the excitement in the game comes from.

I agree that the refs aren't the problem. We're into the 4th season since the lockout, you'd think the players would have learned what is and isn't a penalty by now...

Problem is, the refs are calling a lot of penalties on plays that ARE NOT REALLY PENALTIES. And, for the record, I don't find this post lockout hockey any more exciting than the pre lockout hockey. I guess I'm in the minority.

I was saying that the refs in that one particular game were A+. In most games I have watched this year, I'd say that refs have deserved a rating of C-.

Today's hockey, where a midget like Koivu or Briere can stand in front of a net unharmed, are so much more exciting, aren't they? :nooooo :nooooo

I guess, in a way, the refs are scared of losing their jobs so they have to call penalty after penalty. In that regard, I suppose that I have a little bit of empathy for the position that they're in. Damn the NHL and the NHLPA and pussies like Brett Hull, who whined and whined and whined about being held.

Also, Jarko Ruutu needs to be added to your list I think too

It's all good, man.

Ruutu, Avery, Neil, Hollweg, Burrows, Ott, Cooke all should be banished from the league. And Ryan Shannon should have been suspended for his dive that time Bertuzzi hit him earlier in the season.

The problem with that is that he'll be in the penalty box all night, with this new NHL and all. Confusedcratch:

I agree, defenceman should be able to move people from in front of their own net. What I do like about the post-lockout rules though is the crack down on all the hooking and holding calls on the player with the puck. I'd rather see one of those "midgets" display their explosive speed in the neutral zone and blow past a big, slow, awkward opponent, than have the big guy be able to just stick his arm out to slow him down and kill the play.

Brian Burke is out as GM of the Ducks after telling ownership he won't sign a contract extension. This of course paves the way for his long-rumoured hire by the Leafs...
