Goulet don't even think about the playoffs...it ain't going to happen. But Tavares isn't the prize for finishing last anyway, Swedish defenceman Victor Hedman is...
In somewhat related Leafs news, last night as part of Toronto's Nuit Blanche arts festival, they opened the doors to Maple Leaf Gardens. It was pretty cool to be in there, it brought back lots of good memories of going to games with my dad as a kid - I even spotted our old seats up in the end blues. Unfortunately my camera died on me so I only got some crappy shots with my phone. It was nice to see they cleaned things up inside, I remember a news report not too long ago showing how decrepit things had become. Now if only they could figure out something to do with the building on a more permanent basis...
As for Cfern - he's probably just pulling a Sundin and can't decide when or if to come out of his hiatus....

Election time ... cfern is probably up to his neck in polls.
Either that, or his real name is Sundin.

That's funny because in TSN's latest power rankings they have the Flames only 4th best in their division (16th overall). Not sure where they came up with that though. The Northwest race should be great to watch this year, with every team except the Canucks having a shot to win it. Calgary is my early pick too, but if Edmonton stays healthy and their young guns don't suffer a sophomore slump it could be a battle of Alberta for the division title. On paper it looks like Minnesota took a step back in the off season, but I wouldn't count them out completely either. And if Colorado's goaltending holds up they could be right there as well. Vancouver just doesn't seem to have enough offense and I'd be surprised if they make the playoffs.
My picks for division winners:
West: Calgary, San Jose, Detroit
East: Montreal, Philly, Washington

So much for Vancouver not having enough offense, they put up a six-spot on the Flames?! And how about those Leafs, stealing one from the Stanley Cup champs?! Here's hoping those wins don't end up being the highlights of the season for these two teams.

Calm down everyone...It is basically still the pre-season even though the regular season started...

Overall a much better effort from the Flames tonight, but they still don't have an answer for the Sedin sisters. They kill us every single time, and the Flames' inability to defend against those weenies is the sole reason they lost tonight. And man oh man, did we ever get hosed by the refs in OT. Brutal.

I'm in shock, very sad news out of Russia today, 19 year old Alexei Cherepenov collapsed & died today during a KHL game. Terrible news. My thoughts & prayers definitely go out to his family, 19 is way too young to go. And as a Rangers fan, this news is devasting. I personally was really, really looking forward to Alexei joining the Rangers, likely next season.
Hopefully we get the MSG feed of the Rangers/Devils game tonight.
