I transcribed as much for the lyrics to rink as i could comprehend. Please correct or add to it, as i'm positive i'm mistaken about some parts:

I think this verse has to be:

Hear your voice 'cross a frozen lake
Voice like the end of a leaf
Saying you won't die of a thousand fakes
Beaten by the sweetest of of dekes

Might need confirmation from the hockey playin' crowd. Is "deke" a hockey-specific word? Is it used in soccer too, or just Canadian soccer. Correct spelling?

jf

EDIT:

Maybe "Voice like the end of a leaf" is "Voice like the end of a lead"

Deke is an indeed a hockey-specific word, or at the very least a Canadianism. Most soccer players just say 'fake,' though I like the word 'feint.' Deke is probably short for decoy, if you're interested in the etymology.

Cheers,
John

Yes J.C. I noticed the smaller kit too. Im going to guess that being it was a small gig, maybe a streamlined kit was selected. I love the fact that JF is such a timekeeper insted of a showboat! Small kit or Larger kit....Im sure the heartbeat of the hip was thumping away...

It sounds AWESOME!
There is no name for the album yet, though I heard a list of 20 or so possible names.
Even the Song titles are not 100% - there was some slight hesitation about posting the setlists for this reason actually, as the names might change. Nothing is in stone at this point, excpet how freaking great they sound.

I sat in and filmed a small session in Vancouver on friday before the Commodore of Robbie laying down a sweet little lick for one of the songs. . . I'll be editing a mixed video over the next little while for posting, btw.

and I think that's it. . . . please, try not to shit on me for only giving you bits and pieces of info, that's all that's in the cards for now. It's either that or nothing an I think the consensus is people would rather hear something than nothing.

MAv.

You are exactly right MAv...we are very lucky to have you contributing any information you have to this community. It is very much appreciated and please don't think otherwise due to the odd negative comment that may surface. Any new info is better than nothing! :thumb:

I have yet to see a negative comment about MAv but whatever. Keep on rocking MAv and keep on rocking Hip fans. :thumb:

Then you obviously skipped page 2 of this thread. Telling MAv to keep any information regarding the new album to himself isn't really a positive comment. I just wanted to stress that this view is by far the minority here. That is all.

No, I've read all the pages of this thread. I kind of figured the post you are referring to wasn't meant to be negative in any way. eatmecompletely later said:

"Not trying to knock him

More envious than anything !

I didnt mean to come across as knocking him, sorry Mav if I did!

Nothing but the best for you hipsters, I didnt mean to put anyone down."

I know what you mean though. I'm sure MAv doesn't stress over comments anyway, as MAv has already stated.

man, I stop paying attention to the forum for like a minute and the Hip have four new songs to talk about.

All I can say after reading the reviews, watching the youtube clips and the msn video is i'm pumped. I am anxiously awaiting June 18th, where I will be front row screaming along with Rink (thanks to all for the lyrics).

I think I may be able to deal with the Bob Rock, it is possible that the Hip are just to good for him to ruin.

ps. Mav you rule. now post some videos. NOW!

update: Oh My Gordie! seriously, "The Drop Off"!!! I've only heard 59 seconds and it's already my favorite hip song.

MAv, just wondering if you know/can divulge whether the three new songs are done and recorded as we heard them, or are they still works in progress? They're such great tunes I was just wondering if that's pretty much what we can expect on the album. Both 'Drop Off' and 'Rink' are taking turns getting stuck in my head! Sweet!

Cheers

I think he meant it when he said he couldn't tell us any more.

Ahhhh... decoy!!! That makes a ton of sense (or "tonne" i guess, to use the Canadianism?). Nice work!

thanks,

No problem. Incidentally, even though this isn't what he sings in the concert, it wouldn't surprise me if on the album the lyrics are "voice like the end of belief."

I think you'll have to wait and see. I think that TTH play their songs live the way the want to play them on that particular night. That they change things up and nothing is exactly the same twice. So, to ask if the songs on the album will be or are the same as you heard them one night, at a live show, is an easy question to answer. No.

I always thought 'deke' originated in hockey, though as long as I can remember, we had used it as a synonym for "fake" (or "decoy") in every sport.

American Heritage confirms Problem Bear's nod:

deke

TRANSITIVE VERB: Inflected forms: deked, dekĀ·ing, dekes
To deceive (an opponent) in ice hockey by a fake: deked the goalie with a move from left to right.

NOUN: A fake, intended to deceive a member of an opposing team.

ETYMOLOGY: Short for decoy.
