Echoes is another masterpiece...but my point of this post is to affirm that One of These Days is definitely in my Top Five Ass-Kicking Songs of All Time. It simply
shreds.
An interseting personal tidbit (and cultural reference) about
One of These Days:
Has anyone ever seen the brilliant mini-series entitled
Cosmos, hosted by Carl Sagan, based on his novel of the same name? Episode 1 originally aired in September of 1980, and I was fotunate enough to have watched the entire first-run of that series. I was only eight years old then, so some of the concepts were too advanced for me to truly grasp at the time, but one thing I do remember was
getting my ass kicked by a small snippet of
One of These Days. It was the background score for a scene that included a flyover of someplace in the desert southwest of the US - the imagery was intended to give a visual of how the surface of earth could have looked in early stages of ecological development (or something like that - i don't completely remember the context - it was 25 freaking years ago).
I was so moved by that music that when I had finally heard it for the second time (around the age of 14 or 15), I immdiately linked it in my memory to that Cosmos episode.
Anyway, I was, and still am, amazed by that profound impression left upon me by an incredible piece of music.....and just thought I'd share...
