I continue to be amazed that he could forget, like, ALL the lyrics, and yet remember melodies and timing with seemingly little trouble at all.

The John Mann Spirit of the West documentary on his battle with Alzheimer's highlighted something similar. Similarly he can recall the timing and melody for songs, but the words are gone. There's a section with one of the doctor's where he explains part of his study is trying to figure out how the different parts of the brain work together. I thought Gord had less trouble with Secret Path songs, though they pre-dated the MMP songs. Just based on the show at the NAC in Ottawa, he appeared to use the monitor less (though it may have been stage placement of the monitor).

Gord did use monitors on the FC tour (at least that was the first time I noticed them), I wonder if there was some memory issue that was an early sign of a larger concern? I saw a few shows that tour, and I recall a train wreck of Poets (that he pulled back on the rails in a funny way). At the time it struck me as odd, Gord messing up lyrics has happened since the early days, but he really botched it.

I remember reading in one of the in-depth articles—the ones that came out during the Secret Path release/shows—that when Gord came out of his first surgery for his brain tumor, the only songs he sang were the Secret Path songs and he kept talking about Chanie. (I'm paraphrasing this - it was either in the Toronto Star or the Globe & Mail). And those songs had been recorded a good 2 years prior. Then it said that during his recovery in December he began writing a ton of songs about friends, relatives etc, but with the intention that the only Gord and the song's "subject" would know that the song was for them.

Seems like all The Hip stuff totally flew out the window after this event.

Yea, as long as I've been seeing them live, he's always flubbed a few lyrics here and there. I remember during their Muchmusic Intimate & Interactive performance in 2000, they took a request from the audience. The guy wanted them to play Cordelia to which Gord replied, and I'm paraphrasing here: "Is there another song you'd like us to play? I have a problem remembering lyrics." They then brought the fan on stage with them to help Gord sing the song.

When I saw them in Boston in 2002, Gord completely blanked on the lyrics for Pigeon Camera. He asked the crowd "I need some help here. I'm not kidding. Anyone know the next line?"

Similarly during the WC tour, I think it was one of the Phoenix shows where he completely forgot the opening line to start Chargrin Falls and asked for help from the crowd.

In Rochester 2004 (an incredible show, check it out) Gord had to ask Paul the opening lyrics to Wheat Kings

The images of bearded Gord during the rehearsal have stuck with me more than anything else from the trailer.

I actually watched it on a plane one time on one of my trips over to China. Maybe it was because I had pretty much exhausted everything else possible on the Air Canada "entertainment system", but I actually didn't find it that bad. However, after sitting 2 1/2 hours watching that horrible, HORRIBLE new Mad Max movie, there was nowhere to go but up from there anyways.

I didn't think Bobcaygeon was that bad to be honest. Maybe it's because it would be impossible for me not to be entertained by a film with the boys.

The 2011 tour didn't get glowing reviews however due to the lack of setlist variation.

The two shows after Bobcaygeon were in Moncton and Charlottetown, and I did have a great time at both. I avoided recordings of the new tunes, so hearing We Want To Be It for the first two times was amazing IMO. Still love that tune

I watched the Bobcaygeon doc only once -- and there's even a shot of me in it! Not good. We're in good hands with the Banger Films crew though -- they've got a stellar track record with their music docs (...I actually just watched the Alice Cooper doc on TV last night).
And, Cochise, you thought Fury Road was horrible??? I thought it was one of the best action movies I have ever seen!

I agree, that movie was outstanding. Easily the best action flick I've seen in well over a decade.

Guess it just wasn't my cup of tea. I just found it monotonous (and that was while on a plane with nothing else to do), first half driving away from some place, the last half driving back to the same place you were just leaving. Huge water crisis, but enough water to just casually hose yourself off in the middle of the dessert because you're dusty, drinking gas, inhaling chrome (or whatever that was), guitar player on a truck hood, etc ,etc, etc. Or maybe it was I just had such great memories of the original Mad max and Road Warrior that I had my hopes up and disappointed.

But what do I know, I actually liked Cabin in The Woods!! :lol: :lol: Anyways, didn't mean to hijack the thread to talk about a movie!

Got to agree with this one.... huge let down for me watching this
