Spiritual Machines? you've got to be kidding me (sadly i know you're not)...
it's not bad music because i don't like it, i don't like it, because it's bad music...this coming from a former HARDCORE fan...i was hooked instantly when Naveed came out, i bought it like 3 days after its release, and could not stop listening to it for years to come...when Clumsy came out, I, along with the rest of the country, was blown away...with Hapiness i was quite pleased to see them taking the music in new exciting directions, although i was starting to worry that Raine was getting too whineyfor even my liking, but it was a great album, so i didn't mind...Spiritual Machines was a huge let down...for a couple reasons:
-the first single (In Repair) was soooo good IMO, that when i listened to the rest of the album, it was quite underwhelming, the only other track that appealed to me as much, was Right Behind You, which was the song right before it...so it made for a really poor listen as an entire album...
-the concept was cool, and the art was cool, and the samples were cool, but the songs were weak, and instead of having the art and sampling add to the music, it seemed more the other way around, where really, the album would've been a completely boring mess without all that "glue" holding it together...but, i did like the concept (even though Spiritual Machines seemed to really be stepping on "Machina: And The Machines Of God" as far as an album title goes, especially seeing as Corgan even called them on shall we say "Borrowing" elements of their sound from the Pumpkins (that's a whole different can of worms though))
Their last good song was "Whatever", which really, they barely even wrote, because it was just a reworked version of Chris Benoit's theme...
Then they released Gravity, a shameless attempt to garner mass appeal...and i guess it worked, because they suckered some of you guys in...no more Arnold Lanni, no more Mike Turner, they even got rid of Sol, and instead put a picture of themselves on the album cover...are you kidding me? that is the lamest shit ever...which is probably why the hip have never done that again, and any self respecting band wouldn't ...that's what cheesy top 40 artists do...like 50 Cent, and Shakira...oh wait, they are cheesy top 40 artists now...hunka hunka stinky cheese, the cheese stands alone.
