We Are The Same Discussion

John doesn't like the album - what about you, Dana?

When I first got the album I thought I was getting punked. Really.
I thought someone was pulling a joke on me at first.
I did not really understand what I was listening to.
Thinking "Why are the first 6 tracks just one long song"
And then I started wondering why The Hip were selling pit tickets to their tour, shouldn't that be where the touring orchestra will sit? Is it a theatre tour because everyone will want to sit down for half the show?
Then I started getting into it a little more - especially a couple of the songs.
And like tonight, my kids and I were in the backyard playing, with WATS playing in the background - and it was really cool - like summertime relaxing music while people are over hanging out - nothing too hard nothing too soft.
And even with me having no clue what goes into producing an album, apparently I hate Bob Rock.
I have no clue if I like this album. Gotta see it live.

Welcome! It's always cool to see people from other parts of the world on here. Hip fans are everywhere it seems.

Hi all. Longtime lurker. Been a casual fan since the 90s. Own a handful of Hip CDs. For me, their last great record was Music @ Work. Just wanted to say.....the internet leak of the new one worked as a sales tool on me, as I wasn't impressed with World Container and would've never bought the new one without hearing it in full, as I have. If I didn't like it, I would've just deleted the files, but since I do like it, I'll be buying the CD at a local indie shop on release day.....and deleting the low quality mp3s.

I do think We Are The Same is quite a studio accomplishment. Looking forward to hearing the actual CD on my stereo system....not through 3 inch computer speakers. Can't wait to blare Frozen In My Tracks (the new Tiger The Lion.....sorta) at my neighbors. I do wish Country Day was more low-key, however. More As I Wind Down The Pines-y. That would've fit the lyrics better, imo.

Well well.

It's just me.

Nothing new.

I still say it's fucked but what the hell.

It's tragic.

And on The Hip.com they say: You will receive the album that night, making you the first one on your block to come home with a copy (legally, that is).

Don't worry man I'm still holding out. I feel like a fricken junkie who needs to score some of the good stuff, but the wait will be well worth it. Only 4 more days.

After a listen, first impression is kind of disappointing, especially after World Container. It does pick up, Depression Suite (longest Hip tune ever?) and Queen of the Furrows being the standouts. Some of the disc sounds like Gord Downie solo material (and that's not a bad thing), but it could use more anger/angst.
Definitely time for Bob Rock to move on, or rather, the Hip move away from him. Don't care for the overdone harmonies and backing vocals, and the keyboard is unnecessary. More leads for Robbie is a great thing though :thumb:.

we waited this long a few more days is nothing man
btw – one coping mechanism that works for me -- when I get the urge to download WATS I play Coconut Cream a few times in a row and it puts me off of the Hip
(if for a little while)

Hi Folks,

It's only four days to go until We Are The Same hits record stores of both the digital and non-digital variety. We can't wait for everyone to hear the full record on Tuesday, April 7th. For those who pre-ordered the album, the wait is almost over. The feedback on the two songs out there, Morning Moon and Love Is A First has been over-the-top. Love Is A First has already hit number one at Canadian Radio.

How sweet is that????
