We Are The Same Discussion

'Scared' blew my mind that tour. Full of win.

That being said, I caved and downloaded the album. The crazy thing about it, is that I don't think I love it as much as some of their other albums — but I can't stop listening to it. Over and over. It's aurally very rich and bears repeated listening.

So I don't know. This is their best album since 'Phantom Power' in my mind (which has been my favourite in their discography).

The possibility exists that I will grow to love this album and it will eventually replace 'Phantom Power' as my favourite album. I really dig it.

I have a hard time saying "Best Album since" because to me, every album has its own unique attractiveness.

...then again Phantom Power is my favourite....

but if you look at my most played hip list, Phantom Power songs aren't much at the top. In fact my most played hip song is Leave followed by It Can't Be Nashville Every Night, both from albums since PP.

Yeah totally agree. While I don't like it as much as others, I just cant stop listening to it. Really like The Last Recluse, Queen Of The Furrows, Speed River, and Frozen In My Tracks. Rest of the songs are ok.

I should add that that's a very good thing. "Dire Wolf" and "Dark Canuck" are two of my favorite Hip songs.

Anyone else feel Now The Struggle Has A Name is similar-ish to World Container. In the respects of anthem kinda rock. I really like it. The chorus builds moementum!

Cofee Girl and the Last Recluse are good too. The background vocals in TLR are pretty cool too! Sounds a little choir-ish but nice effects Bob Rock. Aside from Pauly and Gord Sinclair I hope we hear backup vocals in concert.

Quote:But then the logical side of me kicks in and says, "I've bought a copy with one of my Massey tickets. I bought another with the Cineplex deal. And I bought it on iTunes to get Hush. And I bought a Telus phone to get Skeleton Park. And I preordered on Amazon to get the family pack.*"

Ya Chris heck you deserve to be flown into the bathhouse for the show. I preordered nothing except a boat load of concert tickets and will grab my copy on the day of.

I have listened, got into it...then took it out and didn't want to put it in again...cause I had Joel Plaskett's new trio on rotation... The albums always take a different turn for me after the first live show... so we'll see.

Be a shame to not have them work in some of the instruments into the live experience.
The 2 singles and Muse and Frozen got me sold but as for the rest... well time will heal maybe. IVL for me is the last CD I would purposely put on for the entire listening... that didn't happen too much with the last 2

Live Shows is where it's at - Front row centre - day 1 Massey - I am ready - may stage dive! :jump

I think I already mentioned this in another thread, but if I had to compare this album to something, I'd say it's kind of the Hip's answer to R.E.M.'s "Automatic for the People", especially with all the strings, keyboards, and acoustic instrumentation. The record just has that mellow/trippy vibe to it. This is the Hip throwing caution to the wind and saying "What the fuck. We've been making records for 20 years now. Let's try something really different this time around." And it works amazingly well. What a great album!

All of this live will be fucking insane. Especially "Morning Moon", "Last Recluse", "Depression Suite", "Queen of the Furroughs", "Speed River", "Frozen in My Tracks", and "Country Day".

I keep thinking of that album as an analogy as well! This might just be the Hip's "Automatic fo the People".

Man - it is amazing just how differently two fans can feel. Automatic For The People is easily my favourite REM album (provided you omit "Everybody Hurts"), yet WATS is the Hip album I <<still>> like the least.

I really hope that someday I get to the place that you are at with WATS.
