Keenan??? what the f**k are the flames thinking

I was pretty shocked by the announcement at first, but it kinda makes sense. Sutter and Keenan are pretty good buddies apparently. If I'm not mistaken, Darryl was an assistant in Chicago back when Mad Mike was coaching them, so there's a bit of a history there. I wasn't surprised at all that Playfair was replaced. After last year's abysmal road record and the Flames' pathetic and disinterested play in the first round against Detroit, it was only a matter of time before Jimmy got the hook. He's staying on as an assistant though, so I guess that's alright. I'm not a big fan of Keenan, but this may be exactly what the Flames need. A hard-ass coach who isn't afraid to give the players a good swift kick in the arse if they're not doing their jobs. He's like Sutter, but without the sense of humor. The upcoming season is gonna be very interesting.

Rumor has it Pat Quinn may be coming in......................interesting, especially since Toronto is supposed to be looking for some upper management..............so possibly Quinn in Ottawa, Muckler in Toronto............again, interesting........

But both have the ability to sign/trade/re-sign. Ottawa has been season good, playoff crappy till this year. Toronto has just been in and out. Even loyal fans get a "grass is greener" mentality.

Regardless of the rosters they inherited it is hard to say that JFJ has made many "good" moves since becoming GM. Having said that, it's easy to sit back and say he should have done this or that but the reality is that the Maple Leafs GM is the hardest of all of the GM roles in the NHL given the number of chefs that are always in that kitchen...Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment, Ontario Teachers Pension Plan Board, not to mention the likes of Tanenbaum and such. I definitely wouldn't relish that role.

Again, you need to put it in the context of the market as a whole. Do you honestly think no other GM out there would offer a 6'6", 230 lb 27 year old who just put up a career high in goals a $2MM deal? I've heard/read that Hartnell is likely going to get offers of $4MM+......and his best season was 48 points!

Yep the Flyers made a huge splash today trading/signing both Scott Hartnall & Kimo Timmonen.

Now with Timmonen locked up long term, maybe there is truth to all the Jani Pitkanen to Edmonton rumors.

That might be premature, Ive heard his name mentioned among the candidates, but I haven't read anywhere that he's got the job, can you confirm that? I heard Milbury was also in the running, has no-one learned?? I hope they do hire Milbury, I hate Boston.

The Flyers grossly overpaid on Hartnell imo, they still dont have a real goalie so Im not concerned, until they get a steady netminder and a real centre, they will still be average.
