opiated Wrote:oh i see..sacrifice...chirs is the "hipbase jesus" is he?? he had to go to all those shows to "suffer" for all the other hipfans...hey..i appreciate all he's done, but NOBODY ASKED him to, and he acts like he is the messiah...

That's right...nobody asked Chris to go to Europe to see & film the Hip, nobody asked Chris to start a bitTorrent tracker dedicated to live Hip recordings, nobody asked Chris to spend hours editing multiple camera shots of shows to share with fans, and nobody ever asked Chris to take over Jerremy's ftp site or the covers site. He did it because of his love for the band, and he has come to the realization that there are more important things in life, than dedicating his time to this hobby.

He isn't the Hipbase Messiah/Jesus. He's a fan who had the time to share his passions with us, and instead of giving him a hard time when he's trying to make changes in his life, we should be encouraging him on his new endeavours.

Thanks Chris for your contributions & good luck :thumb:

I gotta stick up for opiated on this one.

Poor Chris. He had to watch 30 Hip concerts a year. Poor guy.

Seriously, though, why not just go to the shows without taping them? This, "I'm done, it's too exhausting and I need to have a life" comments. Geez. I mean, maybe I'd get a little bored of seeing The Hip if I saw them that many times too but c'mon. To write an essay about it, like it's this big loss to humanity or something. Big Grin I understand what he's saying and I don't think I could go to Hip concert after Hip concert without losing a little enthusiasm for the band either, but I wouldn't write about it. It came off to me like he feels a little too self important; like the Hip community can only hope to survive without him. I'm appreciative of his DVD's as much as the next guy but I don't really download them that much anyway. I think I'll survive. :rambo:

Of all the things to complain about in the world, I think complaining about being worn out from going to too many concerts is low on the list, just below starvation. Big Grin Big Grin

Having said that, we are all appreciative of what you have done, Chris. Every single person who has downloaded high quality dvd's is appreciative. You have done AMAZING work.

Just incase someone feels totally out of the loop (like I did) Here is what Chris posted on hipfans.com

I’m done.

I knew that the day was coming, but I thought that I still had another year or two.

Twenty minutes in to last nights sold out show at The Air Canada Centre I knew I was done. Done with my undying support of The Hip; done with my addiction to hipbase, done with spending ridiculous amounts of money following them around, done with the countless hours I spend capturing, converting, and editing live recordings of their shows. Done.

Why am I done? Because I am. I’ve seen a lot of shows - some good, some great, and some really great. I’ve travelled with a bunch of like-minded fans to see shows in far-off locations - 5 countries, 2 continents; I’ve met the band, their management, support staff, etc; I’ve got pics, videos, memorabilia, everything a fan could want.

I count myself as very lucky for all of these things, but there comes a time when priorities change. And that time is now.

Leading up to the show I had joked with some friends that I was going to try and give it up, but they all laughed it off. But last night at the show, something happened that was just the push I needed. There we were standing three rows from the stage, surrounded by fans enjoying a concert by their (our) rock heroes and all I kept thinking about was how much I just wanted to be at home doing something else. I kept checking my watch, almost wanting time to speed up.

I think that it is because going to shows is no longer about just having a good time; it’s work. Bringing my recording gear, watching the show through a 3″ LCD screen, contemplating how a shot will look on the big screen, and how I can use it in editing sucks the energy from me like nothing else.

So there it is. If you got this far, thanks for reading. Feel free to post your thoughts in the comments. Although this may be a bit self-indulgent, it’s my site, and this message was approved by me.

Chris,

It's all about balance. The fans on this site have other hobbies other then TTH. You've done some really great things for this site and for all hip fans, and so its time to move on. But you don't have quit cold turkey - See you in Boston WITHOUT your camcorder!

opiated Wrote:chris, the fact that you've had more disputes with people than any other member on this site in the last few years, is enough to justify my point.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? Uh, I think that I'm the dispute king, thank you very much. :x

But on a serious note, happy trails Chris. I'm appreciative of all you've done. :thumb:
