I love this acceptance speech and listen to it all the time.

I remember when Sloan's Twice Removed came out, it was pretty much a given (at least in my circle) that the line "It's not the band I hate, it's their fans" was about The Hip. I had never heard "We Are The Next Us" before...thanks for sharing. Sound retort to that Sloan lyric. (Btw, as a Hip fan, I never found offence to the line. In fact, I have never been a fan of the flag-draped,jingoistic bro-fans shouting "Wheat Kiiiings!!!" throughout Hip shows. The kind of "fans" who would "HIP HIP HIP" the hand-selected-by-the-hip opening acts off the stage. I hear ya, Chris Murphy. Those "fans" do suck.

direwolf74 Wrote:I remember a bootleg I had of a show in the States where some idiots up front kept chanting "go Leafs go", to which Gord replied "you know, as a Bruins fan, I find that chant entirely repulsive." You didn't hear a peep from those guys again for the rest of the show. It was hilarious. Can't remember which show that was.
