I'll never forget these couple from Vancouver's 'Evening With' gigs simply for the local connection:

'This one's called Springtime In Gastown....'

'We all hopped in the back of a truck and crowd-surfed all the way down to the Burrard Street Bridge to jump off the end of the edge of humanity....'

Get them at: <!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.thehundredthmeridian.com/files">www.thehundredthmeridian.com/files</a><!-- w -->

The FTP portion of the site is being phased out in favour of a new web based system. The web based system is in the works. I'll post more about it when it's ready for action.

Glad the thread really took off. I find this stuff really interesting. Any examples of the band being intoduced under a different name? like in the videos for poets and music@work.

and at the end of this:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://speed.sympatico.ca/msn/startcast/music/hip/">http://speed.sympatico.ca/msn/startcast/music/hip/</a><!-- m -->

Gord gives names for the band members that are made up. "robby and johnny and billy and ricky".

and i read once (on the hip story project) about a show in europe where gord started the show by saying "we're the von trapp family".

these are probably more rare and more often than not only done in a small venue (who knows though). any others? keep the songs coming too. this is great.

The names of the band that are used in music videos are all names of bands that the guys in The Hip were in during high school.

Rodents (Poets)
Prisonoirs (Something On)
The Constellations (Bobcaygeon)
The Filters (My Music At Work)
etc...

And as for the names you mentioned:
Robby = Rob Baker
Johnny = Johnny Fay
Billy = Billy Ray (their stage manager, tech guru, etc)
Ricky = Ricky Wellington (their security manager)

yeah, i knew robby and johnny were band members. but didn't think he would mention two band member names and not the other two so i figured he was just being silly.
