You're wrong, the two incidences are the exact same thing

Oh, I wouldn't say that. The four little chickies behind me were the only people in the immediate area who thought they were doing anything magical.

Trust me on that one.

I get your point, and you're right to a degree. But there are still times when it's magical, and other times when everyone within twenty feet is taking off their shoes so they'll have a sock handy to stuff in the offending party's mouth. And everybody can tell the difference, with the exception of the poor sap who's just discovered beer.

Everyone's arguing matters of degree here as if they're absolute, and they ain't. I can't wait to get behind eatmecompletely at a show and start blasting an aerosol foghorn in his ear. What the fuck? I'm just celebrating, man. It's a rawk show! Lighten up! Smile

Sorry, my bad. I didn't realize you were the Judge of Truth.

What? Are you taking opposition just to disagree?

One features a vast majority of the crowd synchronizing itself in cadence with the stirring piece of music being performed, in a manner that is accessible for anyone and everyone to participate WHILE listening......

....the other features a tactless group of inebriated toolbags caterwauling in discordance with the music being performed, preventing those nearby from hearing the performance.

One would give most any fan in observance a chill up the spine, the other would give most any fan within earshot a migraine.

Identical? Confusedcratch:

It's a concert. If you don't like people stay in your hole.

It's not a private show for you, it's a private show for me, and i'm singing.

me too! And I started it... jeesh!

In Charlottetown WHEN (not if) the boys play Fiddler's Green... I'm going to yell it at the top of my lungs. Actually... I run over to any tapers I see, and yell it there.

Really, I don't think I'm the one who needs to lighten up here.

You do know the smiley indicates a joke, right?

I say Sing Sing Sing...it's a rock show...it's a public event..they paid to be there as well..i don't smoke, but i expect people to be smoking..in fact even as a non-smoker it pisses me off to see guards tellin people to put out cigarettes...it's rock n roll....it's about having fun..letting loose...losing yourself for those few hours....if the show's good enough, somebody singing shouldn't be ruining your evening anyways...

I sing along. I think I'm singing pretty loud, but I can't hear myself over the sound of the show for the most part. Who are these people with unbelievably loud voices?

Well my two cents for what it's worth. I am a singer for one.
Also I notice that many Hip fans here and in general are interested in the words that are sung by the Hip.
I want to know where a song originated and what the history is that the guys are singing about. In Pittsburgh when Gord talked about the red canoe called Grace Too I was floored wow, so that is where it comes from.
With that being said I sing the words because I know them. Some of my friends are real music fans and they can play songs after only hearing them a couple of times. They are music buffs and really don't bother with the words. So I see there are two really different sides to this and no one winner will ever be declared.
What I do find funny though is when the Hip belt out an old classic live is that so many let's say younger fans don't know the words and half arse try to sing along.

Ps I don't post much but I read alot.

Don't put too much merit into that being the origin because Gord's song intros vary a lot from show to show.

It seems fairly straightforward to me.

Singing? Okay. Screeching atonally? Not okay.

Trying to get a decent view? Okay. Shoving like you're catching the last helicopter out of Saigon? Not okay.

Having a few drinks? Okay. Losing motor control? Not okay.

Have fun, but respect others. Or am I hopelessly naive.

That said, I would like to place concert-goers who yell out song titles the entire concert in a big hole and fill it in. Also golf fans who yell "Get in the hole!" after every putt.

Cheers,
John
