West to East:

British Columbia is California north prepared with a Washington infusion and served on a bed of Oregon.

Alberta is, hands down, Canada's Texas - all beef, oil and cowboy hats worn entirely without irony.

Saskatchewan and Manitoba are Idaho and Iowa, respectively - only slightly less exciting.

Ontario would be Canada's New York/Washington DC - all money and power.

Quebec is... Well, it's a bit like having France right in your country.

The Maritimes are New England - strange accents and an unnatural relationship with lobster.

Newfoundland is Hawaii - it joined the country last and it's an island (sort of, if you don't count Labrador). True, it doesn't have doesn't have the tropical weather and scantily dressed people that's not very Canadian anyway.

I drove through: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massassachusettes, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Kantucky, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Okalahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Montana, Idaho, Nevada, California, California, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Okalohoma *did I already say that?* and all the way back to New York City and back down to Georgia and back this year alone.

I tell people I'm from New York City, because I went to college there, and, in fact, it IS the center of the universe. Anywhere else on the planet is just some place cool to visit.

I know what Brisket is. The greatest meat on earth smoked, pulled, and drenched in, that's right -- barbecue sauce.

So I'd say 'BBQ' is whatever the hell kind of meat you want to barbecue.

Except in the Carolinas, where you apparently are only allowed to BBQ a pig.

I'd say that's a little 'exclusionary', but then again, they still fly a confederate flag over the S.C. capitol, so I suppose that's par for the course....

Eastern Carolina BBQ is the best in the world, mustard and vinegar..and you will get disqualified from the South East BBQ competition for bringing in beef.

Strange the distance a border makes. I HATE Pennsylvania...just don't like the state. Been there enough to know.

Nawlins? A city always is its neighborhoods...The French Quarter suks; music for drunks by drunks...Uptown and The Garden District, now that is some good music & food joints. But I don't know most of the rest of Louisianna...only drove down from St. Louis once and flew it the other time.

Been a generation...yah, 25 years...since I've been to Montreal and Quebec City...hell, last time I was in Toronto was 1989.

Back in '82, November, caught a ride to Montreal from a professor...wound up in some hostle near McGill...met an Englishmen who was doing a pub tour and we thumbed a ride to Quebec City...froze our asses off on the on and off ramps, but got a WAY COOL hostle near the Planes of Abraham, high on the ramparts...spent a few nights out at the pubs and went to one place several times...one night with two Parisian women...just listening to the singer (a native Quebequois) and the two Parisians talk at our table was enough to make me love the French language.

1977... I hitch hiked across the Vermont border, spent an night in Montreal...upscale neighborhood as I recall...and then thumbed a ride to Ottawa. Sat near the capitol on a park bench in some park with a couple of Maritimers' lookin' for their pensions, smokin' rolled tobacco. It was summer time...july I think...and Ottawa was beautiful..made it to Sue St. Marie that trip.

Never seen Western Canada...was in Glacier National Park this summer and wanted to cross over...but I had a date in California.

Hard to speak of the differences between regions of a contenent these days...the internet makes us all one, no?

But of course not...we are who we are, where we are...but I love that regional differences still remain...love to find that cool little city in the middle of what you thought was now where...like Livingston, Montana. Loved it this summer. Always wanted to see BC...someday I'll make it to
Victoria.

I used to work in Plainsboro a few years back - was one hell of a commute - just loved driving up the Route 1 corridor. LOL - you know what they say, "Jersey Drivers - No Survivors". :lol:

We used to do Happy Hour at Seasons (near the Quakerbridge Mall) and Triumph Brewery on Nassua Street. Are they both still there? Triumph was a really cool place - a bit pricey - but we had lots of fun.

Why did the T.O. vs. Edmonton game start at 5pm MST ? Shouldn't it have been the Late Game? We wouldn't want Torontonians to have to stay up late to watch the Leafs.

However, on the opposite hand, CGY vs. VAN will be fantasic.

I lived in Jersey for 6 years and now Im in the burbs of Philly. I have to say I like PA a lot better than Jersey.

About HNIC though, you'd think that...because it's called Hockey Night IN Canada that they'd play games taking place on Canadian soil. There might be a game in Montreal and in Calgary, but they'll still show the Leafts in Tampa Bay.
