In my hands . . .
#31

At one point in time, The Hip were revolutionary regarding the use of the internet. They broke new ground for bands and website usage, they truly were leaders in that regard. From the sounds of it they are going to do it again, however, this time they have Mav and his squad of
of ultra intelligent friends. This is very exciting news.

Thanks Mav for all your hard work and previews.

For all your dedication and hard work for The Hip and all us Hipsters :thumb: :thumb:

I will not give up. My face is set,my gait is fast,my goal is heaven,my road is narrow,my way is rough,my companions are few,my guide is reliable,my mission is clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, diluted or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of adversity, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity,or meander in the maze of mediocrity. I will not give up,shut up or slow down....Blessed Be!

This is a great way to start the day. Thanks for all your work Mav, and thanks to the band for their part in getting this going. And to Lance too, for letting the Hipbase be a part of the whole thing, in one way or another.

Cheers

Your right Chris,

We thank Mav all the time, but without The Hip he wouldn't have anything to work with.

A big thanks to The Hip for all their music and Thanks to Mav for all the great work you do on the site. The demo of the url looks great!

Chris, you're mostly right, but it's not entirely random... Some of it's Latin -- here's a 1914 translation of what appears on Mav's site by H. Rackham. The Lorem Ipsum stuff doen't make sense, of course, but is loosely based on the following...

"But I must explain to you how all this mistaken idea of denouncing pleasure and praising pain was born and I will give you a complete account of the system, and expound the actual teachings of the great explorer of the truth, the master-builder of human happiness. No one rejects, dislikes, or avoids pleasure itself, because it is pleasure, but because those who do not know how to pursue pleasure rationally encounter consequences that are extremely painful. Nor again is there anyone who loves or pursues or desires to obtain pain of itself, because it is pain, but because occasionally circumstances occur in which toil and pain can procure him some great pleasure. To take a trivial example, which of us ever undertakes laborious physical exercise, except to obtain some advantage from it? But who has any right to find fault with a man who chooses to enjoy a pleasure that has no annoying consequences, or one who avoids a pain that produces no resultant pleasure?"

Of course, not all of this is latin some words are just "jabberwocky"--there's no Latin word lorem, for instance.

People in the publishing biz also call employing this text "greeking", as in "it's all Greek to me". Or as George Dubya Bush would say, "Grecian".

I know, I'm a nerd.

Thanks MAv, you restored my faith in mankind!

And to The Hip, you guys rock, I don't care what anybody says, how many albums you've sold and if people in the States like you or not, you guys rock and are one of the best bands in music history period. Thanks for the all the great music and great concerts, the memories will be with me for a lifetime. I'm looking forward to the box-set, hearing the new music, and seeing the new site and fan club!!

And last (but not least  ) Lance for starting the Hipbase and for doing such a great job with it, I only wish I'd known about it sooner, I'd probably have 4000 posts by now!

Sincerely,

The Lizard King.

Hey Chris / Rory....do you smell access to bands archived sbd's???

As an equally fanatic Hip and PJ live boot collector .. there are many similarities to explore here..

Although the Hip never provided access to EVERY show of their 2004 tour.. (like PJ does) they did provide downloads in a lossless forum.

Although I rarely complain about mp3s , I have to admit PJ's recent change from the 2003 CD mastered live boots to 2005 Mp3 downloads has sacrificed sound quality..
I'd rather have the option of Flacs..

The official PJ camp has rumoured about giving access to its extensive audio archive in future efforts. Many have speculated that you may be given a personal access code with the purchase of PJ's new CD (Spring 2006) much like all of our HIPCLUB memberships were given out with the IVL release...

I predict the HIPClub via MAV's project will likely offer periodic access to select archived shows from past tours...

Mav,
if this is not a part of your plans, you and the band might consider this?

Many of us in the trading community would give our eye teeth for access to archived SBD's...
As PJ and the Hip both realize its also a great way to ensure everyone is buying their own CD..!
(Grovel...Grovel!)

Respectfully,
Scott in Boston
