Small Venues

West coast huh?

I met someone online and introduced her to the Hip. Needless to say...she's a Hip fan now, but of course has only heard "tell tale stories" from me about them live.

I live in Winnipeg, she is in San Fransisco. I think I'd like to go see them at The Fillmore during their next tour, which is where they play there. I looked up their setlist from the IBE tour and it was absotively killer, a few things they wouldn't do here, like open up with Makeshift or stick Inevitability in there somewhere.

Anyone been to a San Fransisco show?

Yup, but it wasn't at the Fillmore. It was an outdoor festival in '98 called the High Sierra Fall Classic, just north of the city out in the middle of nowhere. It was a beautiful spot. The Hip headlined on the 2nd night of the festival with a bunch of local San Fran bands opening the show. Amazing gig!

Keep in touch and maybe we can hook up for a west coast Hip trip on the next tour. The more, the merrier!

Last October.... wow, almost a whole year... my boyfriend and I drove to Rochester and saw them up close... SO CLOSE... at the Rochester Aud Theatre. It was all dark red velvet, small and oh-so-cozy. I will never forget the vibe at that show.

Definitely the most intimate experience. It makes the large, concrete venues seem somewhat disgraceful.....

The large majority of the shows I have seen (i think 40 or so, I have lost count) have been in small venues across the USA. They are so great and I am so spoiled that I actually skip the big shows in Buffalo and Ontario. I still get goosebumps thinking back on 5 straight nights at the Wetlands in NYC. Every night with my beer on the stage at Gords feet..Oh What A Dream.

I second that... being at Gord's feet is incredible!

Ditto. I thought just getting into the Commodore for the Greg Moore Benefit was enough. For each of the IBE club gigs in Edmonton, Calgary, & Vancouver, I was in the same place: at Gord's feet, front & center. Unfortunate thing was that his lyric-sheet stand was in the way sometimes, but I didn't let it ruin my great views of the rest of The Boys.

The wife and I hadn't had a holiday together since we started having kids 10 yrs ago. Mostly because of this site and the information I have been able to glean from it, I went ahead and booked a west coast "holiday" for her and I which started with the IBE Fillmore show in SF and continued with a rented convertable up the coast to catch the Portland show then on to VCR before flying home (yes, I regret not catching the Seattle show but she wanted to do some touristy stuff and I caved.)
The Fillmore show was phenominal. It felt like a high school dance type atmosphere as people milled about having a few drinks prior to SRB taking the stage. I did not rush at all to get our spot and we ended up 3rd row Baker side. As the SRB was winding down I could see the two Gords in an upper balcony looking around in the crowd and the seemingly getting a feel of the evening. Gord D spoke often about the special feeling of playing at the Fillmore and I noticed on the SRB website that they make mention of playing the Fillmore with The Hip and how it had left such a lasting impression as well.
Several conversations with displaced Canadians and the complimentary "Moose" concert poster capped off an wonderful evening. The 100 yd stroll to where we parked the car was nice too. I think 1200 was the announced gate.

I highly recommend the experience.

Anyone have the 8-18-04 show at Fox Theatre or 10-30-04 show at Grand Rapids available (audio or video)? Anyone willing to send them as an attachment (my college server doesn't allow me to download Sad) or any other boots, please send them to me.
Thanks-
